Warren Platner Coffee and Side Table

PlatnerAmerican architect and designer Warren Platner felt there was room in 1960s modernism for “the kind of decorative, graceful design that appeared in a period style like Louis XV” and to explore this idea, he experimented with the possibilities of steel wire.

These creations are still being produced by Knoll and the Warren Platner Coffee and Side Table are the most affordable and easily usable pieces in this collection. In both pieces, vertical steel wire rods are welded to circular horizontal and edge-framing rods and topped with thick tempered glass.

Available to buy from Blend Design, the side table costs £315 and the coffee table £570. If you really love the look and want to splash out, there is also a dining table for £1,320, which is a bigger version of the coffee table.

Keep Calm And Carry On porcelain mug

Keep_calm
The Keep Calm And Carry On print (which we broke first in June 2006) continues to be big news, with a stream of related images and merchandise following its success. And in 2008, it’s showing no sign of slowing down, with the Keep Calm And Carry On Mug now hitting the shelves.

It’s faithful to the original poster, with a red print on a white porcelain mug and a message that’s sure to offer some reassurance when it all goes wrong at work.

Available online, it retails for £7.95.

Retro Flower Sticker Kit

603010lIf re-painting or wallpapering seems like too much effort, an easier way of changing the look of your room is with a few carefully placed wall stickers. New in at Dekko is this Funky Flower Sticker Kit.

The kit contains various flower motifs, including several large daisies in bright colours that will instantly add a splash of flower power to your chosen room. Fun, but not the most subtle designs we’ve seen, this might be a bit much to live with all of the time.  However, these stickers have the advantage of being easily removable without damaging yoru walls and re-sticking time again, so they would be ideal for brightening up a room for a party.

A kit costs £40 and can be ordered from the Dekko website.

ISAK Wallpaper

Wallpaper6_1We’ve featured ISAK’s retro tableware before, but did you know that they also do wallpaper?

ISAK’s wallpaper is custom-made to fit your wall. You pick the design you like from a choice of five, send ISAK the measurements of your wall and in a few weeks you’ll receive your very own rolls of wallpaper.

Apple, Daisy and Tulip (picture here) are bold retro patterns, and Birds and Owls are quirkier typically Scandinavian illustrations, perhaps more suitable for a child’s room.

The wallpaper costs £20 per square metre and can be ordered from the ISAK website.
