Affordable Vintage Fashion Fairs return in October

Affordable
Well, the universities are back, so it’s no surprise to see the return of the Affordable Vintage Fashion Fair.

Except this isn’t a student-only event – anyone is welcome to browse the 40+ stalls selling vintage clothing from the 1930s to the 1980s. And if you head to the Sheffield event, there’s also a vintage clothes swap, where you can exchange the clean/wearable vintage items you’re bored of for anything else that catches your eye (as long as you grab it before anyone else).

Read over the page for dates, addresses and time details for October’s events. Admission is never more than £2 and if you want a stall (or just want to find out more), check out the website

Wednesday 1st October – Leeds freshers fair, white tent outside Leeds university student union.
Doors: 10:00 – 17:00.  Admission: £1.00

Saturday 4th October – Sheffield vintage fair and vintage clothes swap, The Hubs, Hallam union

Fred Perry Terry Hall limited edition V-neck sweater now available

Terryhall_fredperry

With the Specials reunion talk at fever pitch and Terry Hall out and about playing live (see some great footage here of his 100 Club gig), it seems the perfect time for Fred Perry to release the limited edition Terry Hall V-neck sweater.

A classic sweater based on a classic image – the one of Terry in the very first issue of The Face. Indeed, this late 70s-style sweater has been made to the original specification of the day, complete with deeper ‘V’, oversized laurel, original cut and from pure British lambs wool.

Just 500 are being made, with a choice of classic black or maroon on offer, sold in a collector’s limited edition box. I have it on good authority that these aren’t going to be around long (due to sizeable overseas demand), so if you want one, get one ordered now via the link below, they sell for £85.

Martin Margiela 70s-inspired luxury leather trainers

Margiela

Loving the look of these Martin Margiela trainers – not so keen on the price.

The hip Belgian designer has based the shoe on a pair of 70s sports shoes he found , replicating them in a luxury leather (both inside and out), with cotton laces, a translucent gum sole and 70s-influenced colour scheme finishing off the look.

A luxury sports shoe at the luxury end of the market – £235.

Dover Street Market x Gloverall Monty – bright and bold classic duffle coat

Gloverall_colour

Gloverall has been making duffle coats for as long as anyone can remember – and producing the Monty (named after avid wearer Field Marshall Montgomery) since the days of the second world war. Well, it’s time for a makeover – with the Dover Street Market x Gloverall Monty duffle coat.

The range is exclusive to Dover Street Market, offering an all-new colour range of coats for men and women, although some colours obviously suit certain sexes more. Most of the detailing is the same as the original duffle (aside from a few contrast details) and still made from the same 90% wool and 10% polyamide mix.

The price is a little bit higher though at £310, but you might want to view that as an investment – these coats last for years. See the website for the full colour range.

Alife Court Cup – Stan Smith-style trainers

Alife_stan

US street label Alife has gone back to the past for inspiration for its latest shoe – these Alife Court Cup trainers.

Based almost exactly on the classic 1971 Adidas Stan Smith, but with a few obvious changes. The colour is certainly one, this version offered in a bold black, red and yellow, along with the Alife logo on the tongue and inside and the Alife tag attached.

You can pick them up (and stand out from the crowd) now for 125 Euros.

Lacoste for Beauty & Youth college boy cardigans

Lacoste_beauty

Good news if you happen to be doing some shopping in Japan in the near future, Lacost has teamed up with the Beauty & Youth label to produce these appropriately-named Lacoste x Beauty & Youth cardigans.

A classic look, very much in that ‘college boy’ style and made of a fine wool with contrast stripes for the collar, seam and cuffs, as well as the classic Lacoste logo.

Even if you can find one in Japan (or manage to order one online from the site below), we’re not talking cheap – expect to pay around £140.
