Bearded Cap – keep your facial hair warm

Beardcap
The balaclava and facial hair are about as 70s as you can get – and now you can combine the two with the Bearded Cap.

Made by Icelandic design collective Vik Prjonsdottir, it combines warmth for your head and keeps the snow off your moustache and beard, creating balaclava-like warmth, but with more space for your face to see.

They’re made from 100 per cent Icelandic will and available in three different colours and shapes. No price listed – you’ll have to contact the company via the site for one. Ad while you’re there, check out the other bizarre and quirky designs on offer.

Marimekko_hm

Good news for fans of vintage Finnish textiles – H&M has teamed up with Marimekko and will offer a range of vintage-style fashions from April 2008.

The collection will use popular Marimekko patterns from the 1950s to 1970s, with 50 items in total available at launch The range will have a ‘graphic overall look’ and include 70s-style dresses, tunics, skirts and shorts for women, with men having to make do with shirts and shorts. There will also be some children’s items and accessories.

We’ll hopefully have images of items in the range nearer to launch (as opposed to the current artist’s impressions) – watch this space.

Jockey launches retro Y-fronts range for men at Urban Outfitters

Jockey_retro
70s-style underwear is in – well, according to maker of pants Jockey and its chosen retail partner Urban Outfitters.

Jockey is launching these 70s-style Y-fronts from this month, initially in the US, but likely in all Urban Outfitters stores in the coming weeks. They’re sold in bold colours with white trim and in sets of three in clear plastic tubes. 100 per cent cotton naturally – although I’m disappointed they didn’t do the full 70s thing and make them in a particularly nasty man-made fibre. And in paisley.

The price is $24 (£12) for a pack.

Gola 40th anniversary Harrier trainers

Gola_harrier
In 1968, the Gola Harrier trainer was designed by Fred Dilley as an all-rounder for virtually any sport. And with 2008 approaching, Gola has reissued the Harrier in a special 40th anniversary edition.

Originally available in just white and green, it went on to be released in 200 colour combintations and a few style changes. The 40th anniversary shoe will be faithful to the original design and in the colours you can see in the image – for both men and women. And to add that special touch, they will be sold in the original box design, each containing a leaflet about the shoe.

The shoes retail for £45.

Lyle & Scott limited edition tipped V-neck sweater

Lyle_tipped
What do you think of the Lyle & Scott knitwear? Personally I’m always put off by the size of the necks – although this Lyle & Scott limited edition tipped V-neck sweater seems to address that.

Apart from the smaller neck, this 100% merino wool has a trim to waist, neck and wrists, the vintage golden eagle logo on the chest and a choice of colours. But best of all, it is limited edition, with just 1,000 units worldwide, so a bit of exclusivity too.

Price is £75.
