Aslak 1950s stacking chairs by Ilmari Tapiovaara

Aslak

A lesser-known midcentury design has been reissued – the Aslak stacking chairs by Ilmari Tapiovaara.

A Scandinavian design, it actually dates as far back as 1946, but went into production in 1958, when new laminating methods of veneer made it possible for mass production.

For your money, you get a stackable chair with seat and back in formed plywood, the frame in laminated birch. Available in clear lacquered birch, honey or black stained birch, or white or red painted birch, the chair is priced from £531.

B&Q’s Panton-style Dome table light

Dome

Ok, it's not got the timeless style of the Verner Panton Flowerpot table lamp, but you can get a Panton look for under £20 with the Dome table light at B&Q.

Offering much in the way of late 60s/early 70s charm, the 15-inch tall lamp is made of metal and offers up ambient mood lighting for any room, with a toggle switch for easy control.

And as I hinted at earlier, it's cheap too, coming in at £19.98, bulb included.

Adidas Samba trainers return in new shades of suede

Samba1

Another reissue of the classic Adidas Samba trainers, this time with a choice of blue or green suede.

Actually, that green could be a turquoise, so it could be two shades of blue – check it out over the page and make your own mind up. Anyway, both are takes on the classic 1962 footballing shoe and latter-day terrace classic, with that suede upper, contrast stripes, a vulcanised white sole and some gold detailing.

£49.99 secures you a pair.

Clip Frame Bag from Per Una at M&S

Perunabag

Clip frame bags and purses are often remembered as items our grandmothers owned, which is surely an instant solidification of their vintage-look credentials. They needn't be fusty, though, with classically stylish versions like this Clip Frame Bag from Per Una at Marks and Spencer.

Made from a patent plastic material, the fabric has a real mid sixties appeal. The simplistic and uncomplicated structure fits well with a retro appeal, above and beyond the classic clip frame in silver. Available in both a muted lilac and a spot-designed olive green, the colours avoid being too modern.

Get it online or in M&S shops for just £25.

Kai Mai Tunic Dress from Monsoon

Kaimai

While mini skirts have stuck around in mainstream fashion, loose fitting shift dresses have retained a certain retro aesthetic to this day. This Kai Mai Tunic Dress from Monsoon combines a shape introduced in the 1960s with some later influences, creating an evening look that has a subtle vintage style.

The straight cut of the dress offsets the short hemline to create a stylish leg-baring look. Slightly belled sleeves finish at a bracelet length, while the silk fabric creates a seventies style luxury. The Eastern influence finishes off with a hint of late sixties/early seventies aesthetic.

Get it at Monsoon now for £95.
