Riverdale Boatneck Dress from Fred Flare

Stripedress

We often think of woolen dresses being far too casual for achieving a sharp sixties look, but once in a while that notion is proved completely wrong. Remembering how the decade itself used knits, this Riverdale Dress from Fred Flare doesn't put a foot wrong in transitioning towards Spring with 60s style.

The boatneck, combined with a sleeveless cut, creates the perfect silhouette and slimming look, while the A-line skirt is demure enough for daywear without looking square. The bold stripes combine with a natural green shade to give a twist on a French-inspired chic that sits well with the sixties influence.

Heart Print Dress by Oli

50s

Among the vampish burlesque and pin-up styles of the 1950s, the cutesy side of the decade is often unfortunately forgotten. This Heart Print Dress from Oli takes that aspect of a fifties retro look and runs with it, creating an adorable modern interpretation.

The short prom style has an instant retro impact, with a more modern Japanese-lolita style twist in the short cut. The halter neckline, red heart print and slight sweetheart neckline keep the fifties influence in place while a dash of modern exaggeration is added to the netted circle skirt.

eBay watch: Dieter Rams-designed Braun PC 3-SV turntable

Rams_deck

An iconic design and currently available for under £1 – the Dieter Rams-designed Braun PC 3-SV turntable.

Designed in 1959, the PC 3-SV is the turntable element of Rams' iconic SK 4 series. It's plinth-mounted, has all the vinyl speeds you will require and is apparently in 'fully working order' and 'excellent cosmetic condition', as well as being available on ebay right now at just 99 pence. Will it end on that? I suspect not, but it's worth a punt.

The seller also seems to specialise in Rams/Braun designs, so check out his other designs too for everything from heaters and fans through to coffee grinders and hair dryers.

Liberty of London for Target range now available to pre-order in the UK

Liberty2
We looked on with a mix of frustration and jealousy when the Liberty of London for Target range was announced for the US market only. Well, it looks like the iconic department store felt our anguish and has swiftly made it available to UK customers too.

In fact, you can get your pre-orders in now. Prices seem as appealing as Target, with drinking glasses at £5, mugs selling for £6, frames at £8, piggy banks at £15 and a teapot for just £25 to name just a few things.

Downside? Well, one or two things seems to be missing, cushions (which you can see above) and quilts for a start, but most annoyingly, that really cool beach cruiser bicycle. Here’s hoping they’re added later or are available instore. Talking of the store, it will have the range for sale from 29th March, presumably these pre-orders will be shipped the same day.

Tony Duquette lighting range at Remains

Tony_duquette_sconce

If you're not familiar with the work of Tony Duquette, he was a Hollywood artist and designer who worked from the 1940s up until the 1990s. Remains Lighting are now producing a range based on his original designs.

The designs are big on the Hollywood glitz and glamour so perhaps aren't suitable for those with a more minimalistic taste. The Golden Sunburst scone pictured takes inspiration from a motif in a curtain that he designed for the L.A. Music Center in 1964 and is typically ornate.

Made from hand-polished metal, the prices seem to be aimed at Hollywood stars as, for this design, they range from $2275 for a gloss white finish to $2795 for an antique brass model. Want to see it in the flesh? Although the company is based in New York, you can find details of their London showroom on their website.

Kit wallpaper featuring retro food packaging from Studio Nommo

Nommo wallpaper

If you believe you are what you eat, how about extending this motto to the rest of your home? Should you want to, the Kit wallpaper from Studio Nommo allows you to cover your walls with retro-style illustrations of packaging and create a Pop Art food fantasy look that surely even Warhol would be proud of.

The paper is based on a design by Andreas Samuelsson and features everything from boxes of Ritz crackers to Nintendo NES controllers. The design is fun and unusual but, even in this otherwise minimal marketing room shot, looks pretty full on!

If you're brave enough to want to try this look out, the paper costs 130 Euros a roll.
