1950s Ribb dinnerware by Stig Lindberg

Ribb

We have featured some of the classic Stig Lindberg designs in the past, the Bersa and the Adam and Eva for example, but we haven't featured this 1950s classic – the Ribb dinnerware by Stig Lindberg.

The Ribb dinnerware from Gustavsberg was introduced under the name Spisa Ribb during the H55 exhibition in Helsingborg, Sweden in 1955, but that striped design went missing for some years until its recent reissue. Perfecct for a vintage tea party, you can pick up a coffee and tea cup (with saucers), along with two sizes of plate, all made from genuine bone china and all dishwasher and microwave safe.

Prices vary depending on what you buy, but sell from around 37 Euros per piece.

Ikea’s Aalto-inspired outdoor Blanko stools get a splash of colour

Blanko

We did feature these last year, but as the Ikea Blanko stools have had a colour makeover, we thought they were worth flagging up again. And of course, because they're an absolute steal.

As we mentioned previously, the stools are not dissimilar to the classic Stool 60 by Alvar Aalto, a modernist piece dating back to 1933 and likely to cost you the best part of £100.

This isn't that, but you get the look, the option to use outside (powder-coated steel with a hole for water to drain easily) and some colour – specifically blue or red. All of that for just £8.99, which makes it just about the cheapest way to get some modernism into your home.

John Lewis retro-styled Barbican armchair

Barbican1

Another retro gem from this year's John Lewis range – the Barbican armchair.

Mixing 50s styling with plenty of comfort, the Barbican has planty of curves and a high back, aided by a wood frame and fibre-wrapped, zig zag sprung foam seating. Cosette Green fabric finishes things off, along with those period splayed legs in oak.

Available online, it sells for £699. Another image over the page.

eBay watch: 1970s Rolls Royce Silver Shadow

Roller

In the 60s and 70s, driving round in a Rolls Royce said everything about you – that you'd made it and had cash spilling out of every pocket. Since then, luxury cars have become more commonplace, but the 'Roller' is still a car that turns heads. And as this Rolls Royce Silver Shadow shows, it's not out of your reach in 2010.

This is a vintage 1975 model, previously used as a wedding car and probably could be again. Just spend a few quid on a peaked cap and you're away. Or you could simply be a 'show off' and take if for a spin round town, although that 6,750cc engine might need more than one fuel stop along the way, as well as a small bank loan to fill the tank.

Just over 100,000 miles on the clock (which isn't bad), with an AM/FM stereo, CD player, cruise control, leather seats, power-assisted steering, power seats, power windows and all the luxury you require thrown in. Check the small print for the full lowdown and if you like what you see, the bidding is currently at just £2,100.
