Gama-Go Record Coasters

Coasters1

Like vinyl? Like an unmarked coffee table? Then these Gama-Go Record Coasters could be for you.

It's all about the detail and it has to be – after all, these are just four silicone coasters, machine washable, but still coasters. Saying that, not every set of coasters comes in a box designed like a vintage record deck, nor do they usually look like vintage vinyl records, right down to the flip-oout plastic middle. At least, we presume it flips out.

Not expensive either, with a set retailing for $12. Another image of the coasters 'in use' over the page.

Fontana Modern Masters print by James Pardey

Fontana1

It's eye-catching from a distance, but the real appeal of the Fontana Modern Masters print by James Pardey is in the detail.

This is op art, 70s-style. Launched in 1970, the Fontana Modern Masters were a series of pocket guides on eminent writers, philosophers and thinkers. Great if you loved deep thinking, but even better if you loved great graphic design, with each book offering up abstract paintings in bright colours, along with distinctive, rounded typography.

Each could be described as a work of art in itself and together, the entire 48-book series is certain to brighten up your room, as well as giving it a retro twist. The poster is printed on high-quality 200gsm paper and will fit a standard 50 x 70cm frame. Find out more about the print and poick one up directly from the artist or grab one from the Design Museum, priced around £24. See a more detail shot of the print over the page.

Ingo Maurer Warhol-inspired Canned wall light

Maurer

We flagged up a ceiling version back in 2007, but now you can get also pick up the Ingo Maurer Canned wall light, which is great news for fans of pop art and soup.

It's Warhol-inspired lighting, but it doesn't derive from the 1960s. The Canned light is actually from 2003, the work of Christoph Matthias and Hagen Sczechimu for Ingo Maurer. For your money you get the Campbell's tomoato soup can (made from aluminium and steel) complete with bulb, reflector, distinctive cabling and switch.

£185 secures you one, which isn't a bad price for a piece of practical pop art.

Gypsy Temptress Dress from Hollywood Flame

Gypsy

Treading the line between sexy vampish style and a demure edge is one of the most important elements of convincing retro style. For a real fifties feeling, this Gypsy Temptress Dress from Hollywood Flame gets that balance just right.

Combining a pretty plaid upper and sleeves with a body-hugging wiggle dress, the silhouette is a great 50s look thanks to that high waistline. The knee-length hemline is finished with a fringe to create something a little unique, still in keeping with the gypsy style.

It's available online from Hollywood Flame for £57.50.

eBay watch: 1950s cocktail bar

50sbar

I'd love to give you all the details of the manufacturer and specific year, but the description on this piece simply says Fifties Cocktail Bar, throwing in the word 'French' for good measure.

Thankfully the image does most of the talking – screaming the era, this particular bar has a lacquered wood finish and those very distinctive stencilled jazz instruments, which offer a mix of the kitsch and the cool. Some storage inside as well as on top, as you might imagine, just enough for your cocktail essentials.

The current highest bid is just £1 right now, although the dreaded 'reserve not met' jumps out from the screen. If that reserve isn't too high, this could be the perfect addition to a 50s-style home.
