Aertex Gold range – tops inspired by World Cup shirts of the 60s and 70s

Aer1

Heritage brand Aertex has gone back to its past for the new Aertex Gold range, which is inspired by World Cups of the 60s and early 70s.

Indeed, Aertex was worn by the England squad in 1970s, so the company can legitimately claim a connection. These aren't replica pieces though. Instead, it's a range of 11 designs inspired by shirts worn in the 40 or so years back, made in a modern breathable 'Aertex Fabric', with styles ranging from crew necks to polo shirts in various colours.

Expect to pay between £25 and £30, with the shirts hitting stores (and Aertex Online) in April. More images over the page.

Floral Cropped Blouse from Miss Selfridge

Floralcropped

While dresses with vintage influence are in relative abundance, finding chic retro separates can be a tall order, especially where statement pieces are concerned. This Floral Cropped Blouse from Miss Selfridge is a rare find on the high street, thanks to its clear 50s influence.

The blouse ticks plenty of boxes for a fifties look, with a cut that's sleeveless and cropped it flashes just enough flesh when teamed with a high waistline on the bottom. The tie at the waist gives this enough femininity to offset the masculine shirt collar, while the floral print avoids being too girlish.

It's available new in at Miss Selfridge for £22.

Scarlet Silk-Blend Dress from Alice by Temperley

Alice

Simple and chic strapless dresses have been popular since before the 1950s, and continue to prove a versatile style in womenswear. This Scarlet Silk-Blend Dress from Temperley's Alice diffusion line subtly combines a healthy dollop of retro influence with modern style points.

Taking inspiration from the fifties use of sweetheart necklines, this dress adds a modern twist by squaring off the bustline. Contrasting the curves of vintage silhouettes with some angles, the retro appeal is still kept intact with a high waistline and pencil skirt shape, along with a cutesy polka dot print.

It's available online from Net-a-Porter for £246.

Lavazza’s colourful and retro Mio Modo coffee maker

Modo

If you didn't fancy the plain black version, there's now there's a more colourful way to prepare your coffee when using the Lavazza Mio Modo coffee maker.

Take your pick from any of the bold colours above, adding some brightness to the already retro look of the original. It should make a tasty coffee too, using capsules and cutting edge extraction technology to produce a full-bodied and creamy espresso, a steam arm for cappuccinos and lattes and a hot water function for the tea drinkers. But I'm guessing if you're a tea drinker, it's not the best way of spending your cash.

Still the same price as the black model – expect to pay around £119.

Welbeck British postcard tile collection

Coastal tiles

As you put the kettle on for another cup of tea and find yourself dreaming of different times and places, fuel your fantasies with the coastal collection from Welbeck tiles

The range is inspired by old postcards and uses images from perhaps the golden age of British holiday going, featuring scenes from places like Skegness, Margate, Newquay and Barry Island amongst many others. Other tiles show the reverse of the postcards, complete with the requisite 'Wish you were here' type of messages.

All the tiles are hand-made in Cornwall which is reflected in the price as the postcard tiles cost £40 each. They are shown in the image above alongside tiles from some of the other Welbeck ranges: full details and prices can be found online.
