Cassette tape lamps from ooomydesign

Cassette tape lamps

Though the cassette tape format is all but dead as a musical format, it continues to inspire innovative design ideas, including these cassette tape lamps from ooomydesign. The work of Vanessa Moreno, they are made by typing the cassettes together, using plastic zip ties and she suggests that it's simple enough to replace some of the tapes with your own favourites. As the image shows, when the light is switched on the plastic of the casing produces a great effect.

The lamps are produced in various forms which vary in cost from 35 euros for a small lamp, up to 140 euros for the floor lamp.

Rietveld Junior Crate chair

Rietveld junior chair

Any design classic worth its salt now seems to be available in a kids version too. Earlier this summer we featured the Knoll range and there's also the Charles and Ray Eames selection. The junior crate chair reproduces the chair Gerrit Rietveld made from reused crate wood packaging in 1934, but at 2/3 of its normal size. These chairs do have slightly more of a pedigree than some of the designs on the market as, in his lifetime, Rietveld did build a pair for his own daughter.

The twenty-first century version comes as a flat pack in a variety of colourful finishes as well as the natural version shown here. If you think your kids aesthetic sensibilities are worth this kind of investment, the chair costs 189 euros.

“All the cars I ever owned” Print

CarsRF

“All the cars I ever owned” is a new venture from the designers at People will always need plates. Moving away from architecture, for this piece they have turned their attention to automobiles.

The bespoke giclee prints are based on a list of every car you’ve owned, with an illustration of the make and in the order you owned them. Obviously, this print works best if you have driven an eclectic range of retro and classic cars, but if your real history is not so interesting, you could always have the print made using a list of your favourite vintage cars.

The print is made to order, so the price is available on application. Contact People will always need plates via their website for more information.

Tivoli Audio Model One Radio

Model_one_classic_walnut_m_800

Tivoli Audio has produced some great wooden audio equipment, and we have featured some of its more advanced (and expensive) products here in the past, but if you just want an old-fashioned radio, then the Model One offers unbeatable style.

Housed in a walnut cabinet, this is a traditional FM/AM radio, but it is still compatible with ipods and other players, which can be plugged into the system.

It is available to buy from the Scandinavian Design Center, priced just over 186 Euros.
