Braun ABW31 clock by Dietrich Lubs

Braun_clock

The classic Braun designs of the 60s, 70s and 80s are getting in ever-more short supply as the years pass, presumably because technology moves on, leaving many classic products by the wayside. Thankfully, we still have the Braun ABW31 clock by Dietrich Lubs – for now, at least.

It's a classic piece of Braun design, minimalist and modernist-inspired and despite dating from 1987, is also pretty much timeless. A greet frame with black functional numbers, hands and markers, it should fit perfectly into just about any room.

Available in limited numbers from the Design Museum, the ABW31 retails for £39.95.

It is part of the Quadrant range which also includes a photo frame, memo board, display case, key rack and candle holder, all in a similar style.

The calendar measures 20cm square, costs £28 and is available from Mode Twenty One, along with other products in the range.

50s Print Cups

JC1097_1_Zoom

Sometimes matching patterned cups can look a bit too twee, but mis-matched designs can just clash. So these 50s Print Cups are a great compromise.

Each cup has a slightly different pattern, but they still obviously belong to the same set. Each cup features a varying amount of the red and grey design which dates back to the 1950s.

A set of four cups costs £25 from Dutch by Design.

A tribute to John Hughes

You might not admit it, but deep down everyone loves a John Hughes movie or two, so it's sad to hear of his passing, aged just 59.

So why not rifle through your movie collection and dig out Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Weird Science, The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, The Great Outdoors or Uncle Buck. All will guarantee you some 80s-style nostalgia, along with some cracking entertainment. Ok, they might have dated, but that's half the appeal.

Or just check out the trailer to the Breakfast Club below. Gone, but unlikely to be forgotten for a generation – and still the best teen movie maker of all time, without question.

eBay watch: Pieff 1970s two-seater leather sofa

Pieff

If you want something distinctly 1970s as a centrepiece for your living room, check out this Pieff two-seater leather sofa, which looks to be something of a bargain right now.

Loving that chrome frame that screams the era, while that leather-clad upholstery looks to be perfect  for sinking into and watching a night's TV. According to the seller (the second owner), everything is original, with the cushions repaired using the original leather by the seller, but still packing plenty of vintage character.

Bags of photos on the site, so check them out at eBay right now – the current price is just £21, which has got to be tempting.
