Taking its inspiration from 1950s modernism, the Fitto Chair will certainly look the part in any modern home.

Designed by Sergio Fahrer, the Coconut Chair (to use its alternative name) has a rich pau ferro wood veneer (sustainable and eco-friendly), with a soft white cushioned interior. It’s also available with a matching stool too should you wish to stretch out and take it easy.

Not cheap at £2,450, but quite possibly a design classic of the future.

Nava Columbia 1980s calculator

Nava_calc

It might look like a prop from a low-budget sci-fi movie, but this the Nava Columbia calculator is actually a piece of high-end design from the 1980s – and one you can still buy today.

The work of Sottsass Associati (the company of previously-featured Italian designer Ettore Sottsass), it does everything you would expect of your average calculator, but just looks so much more stylish – whether you go for the black or silver finish.

Originally designed in 1989, it’s available today complete with case for a little more than its price ‘in the day’ – just £31.

Classic Chanel-style looks by Cardigan

Cardigan

For decades, the classic Coco Chanel look was the must have for those affluent style lovers of New York’s Upper East Side. While most of us may not have the budget required for the full Chanel suit, you can grab a more casual take on the preppy style with this Classic Cardigan by the appropriately named Cardigan.

The key to the look is the monochrome colour scheme, with a plush wool blend that gives a hugging fit as well as clear quality.

It’s available online from Shopbop for $275.

Finn Stone’s Ball Chair returns in silver and gold

Ball_silver

If you missed out on the Ball Chair by Finn Stone last year – or didn’t like the initial colours – you might want to check out the latest versions in silver and gold.

The space age chair apparently takes influence from the work of Verner Panton and is good to use both indoors and outdoors, thanks to a construction of recycled ABS (virtually indestructible polypropylene) and a high quality glossy varnish that is highly UV-resistant and environment-friendly.

It retails for £145.

Bestlite BL9 modernist pendant light

Bestlite_pendant

Modernist design wasn’t just for mainland Europe – Britain had its own cutting-edge objects in the 20s and 30s too, with the Bestlite lamp being the most famous. And not only a lamp – you can now pick up that same design for your ceiling with the Bestlite BL9 pendant light.

The Bestlite was described as ‘the first Bauhaus manifestation in Great Britain’ when it was introduced in 1930, the work of Robert Dudley Best. And that stylish simplicity can still catch the eye almost 80 years later, mixing stainless steel and aluminium in a choice of matt black, matt off white and glossy black, with the shade sized around 21cm in diameter.

If you want one, it retails for £158.99.
