Richard Rogers limited edition Pompidou Centre prints

Rogers_pompidou

The Design Museum is currently hosting the Richard Rogers + Architects: From The House To The City exhibition, focusing on the work of the architect and his practice. And where there’s an exhibition, there is usually merchandise.

And this one is no exception. You can pick up a poster featuring one of his more contemporary works  or you can pick up one of the limited edition Pompidou Centre prints. The screenprints feature never before seen provisional sketches of the iconic 1970s construction by Richard Rogers and Renzo Piano.

The front view (above) is A1-sized and limited to just 50, each numbered and signed by Richard Rogers. A collector’s piece of the future and something of a steal at £95.

Verner Panton 1960s Spiral pendant light

Verpan_spiral

If you have a high ceiling or you are on the look out for a focal point in a large room, the Verner Panton Spiral pendant light could fit the bill.

Originally launched in 1969 and now back on the market, the Spiral is so called because of the silver ‘cellidor’ spirals that descend from the three-ring metal frame. And if silver isn’t your thing, there’s also a version with a gold finish.

The bulb hides somewhere in the centre and the whole thing retails for £499.

Get a cold war look with the Interflug retro flight bag

Interflug

If you didn’t know, Interflug was the state airline for what was formerly East Germany (from the 1960s through to the 1990s). Obviously, when the wall came down, so did the airline – but you can still get the iron curtain look with the Interflug retro flight bag.

Featuring the ‘classic’ logo on the dark blue bag along with red contrast piping, the bag has a detachable/adjustable strap, a large single pocket and a slim pocket on the outside.

It retails for £22.

Meiji – Tetris-style chocolate game

Tetris_choc

What could be better than chocolate? Simple – the Meiji Tetris-style chocolate game.

Straight out of Japan, it’s a chocolate bar with a difference – choose your type (white, milk or plain – going up in order of difficulty), then break up the bar in Tetris-like pieces.

Scramble them up, then try and re-create the block with the Tetris chocolate. Apparently, it’s not that easy – especially if you eat some. And if you can’t do it in one sitting, a plastic box is on hand to store it. Available online and yours for the equivalent of £3.50.

PPQ/Ben Sherman Five Decades of Dresses

60dressClothing labels PPQ and Ben Sherman have collaborated together on a range entitled "Five Decades of Dresses".  Each dress in the range reflects a different decade and the music style associated with the period.

Starting with the 1960s and mod, the collection continues through 1970s(rock) , 1980s (ska), 1990s (Britpop) up to the present decade (indie).

Predictably, the earlier decades have the better dresses with a Twiggy-esque black and white shift dress for the 60s and a purple paisley print shirt dress for the 70s, although the simple striped number for the 90s isn’t bad either.

All five dresses cost £175 and can be ordered online from the Ben Sheman website.

eBay watch: Victor Vasarely 1972 Olympics poster

Vasarely

Here’s a tip for you – if you want some cool art on your wall for not a lot of cash, hunt around for some of the posters advertising the Munich Olympics in 1972.

The organisers cleverly approached the pick of contemporary artists of the era to produce interesting artwork for the games, using the posters in shops, on bus stops – just about anywhere really. If you want a comparison, think Banksy doing posters for the London Olympics right now.
