Retro tea and coffee mugs from Churchill at Debenhams

Churchill_retro_mugs_2

Pretty vintage tea sets might be great to look at, but for most of us a sizeable mug is a much more practical purchase. These retro styled tea and coffee mugs from Churchill at Debenhams are a great way to achieve a stylish alternative.

Made from fine china, the mugs are dishwasher and microwave safe, and are a bit of a bargain too at £4. No excuses for not buying a full set, then.

Sawaka Saruno retro cycling helmets

Cyclehelmet

More of us are cycling – which means more cycling accessories on the market. Like these eye-catching Sawaka Saruno cycling helmets.

hey are the work (as the name suggests) of Japanese designer Sawaka Saruno, who loved riding a bike, but didn’t think much of the cycling accessories on the market for women. So she created some.

The helmets meet all safety requirements and come in a range of styles, including the Kiku and Sakura above. All feature a side adjuster, diamonte on the buckle and the brand label on the rear. All retail for £60 each.

Yesterday’s News Coloured Pencil Set

NewspencilsUnless you are an artist, you may not have had much call for coloured pencils since you left school, but this set is definitely aimed more at adults than school children. Called “Yesterday’s News”, the set of 12 coloured pencils are made from recycled Chinese newspapers!

Each pencil is produced using tightly wrapped sheets of newspapers, so the print features censored journalism, classified ads and table tennis results. They are supplied in a tube also made from recycled newspaper.

They would make an interesting gift and only cost £2.35 from the Days Gone By Shop.

Alexander Girard’s La Fonda coffee table

Lafonda_table

A while back we featured the reissued La Fonda armchair by Alexander Girard. If you liked that, chances are that you’ll also like the newly-reissued La Fonda coffee table.

The tables were commissioned for the La Fonda del Sol restaurant at New York’s Rockefeller Center and developed in the Eames office in 1961. That resulted in the striking chrome die-cast aluminium legs and Carrara marble top, standing at a height of 65cm and with a diameter of 45cm.

And it is available again, courtesy of Vitra. Price is around £1,254.
