Joseph Hoffman Kubus sofa and armchair

Hoffman_kubus

We always bang on about certain designs being timeless, but few can match the longevity of the Joseph Hoffman Kubus sofa and armchair.

Dating back to 1918, it’s still an incredibly stylish design that could easily pass for a contemporary piece, with a wood frame and foam padding covered by the patchwork-style leather. And of course, there’s that groundbreaking cubist shape.

Available in a range of colours, you can pick up a chair from just over £2,000 and a sofa from around £2,800.

Topshop 40s-style Tea Dress

Topshop_teadress
1960s-inspired fashion seems to be everywhere, but you don’t tend to get much of a 1940s vibe on the high street – with the exception of this 40s-style Tea Dress from Topshop.

Obviously there aren’t as many tea dances to attend these days (unless you count Mrs Boon’s Tea Party), but you could get away with this black floral frock just about anywhere. The dress has a ‘cut-out’ detail at the back, a waisted belt and is made of 100 per cent polyester (so it can go in the washing machine).

Available in most sizes, you can pick it up for £45.

Verner Panton FlowerPot table lamp

Flowerpot_table

Some time ago, we featured the Verner Panton FlowerPot pendant light fitting, a design classic that still looks sharp today. Well, if you found that a bit too much for your ceiling, there is an alternative ‘pot’ on the market – the Verner Panton FlowerPot table lamp.

It’s an ever-so-slight twist on the 1969 classic, with the flowerPot now adorning your table rather the ceiling, with a matching pole and base for the light in the same  range of colours.

Available online, the lamps retail for £185.

Buy a London black cab for your own personal use

Black_cab

You don’t get more retro than a classic black cab – one of the most recognisable sites on the roads of London and indeed around the UK – and likely to be for many years to come. But did you know you can buy one easily without being a taxi driver?

You can from several places, including Elite London taxis, which offers cabs fully checked and serviced, all with warranties and a one-year MOT. And as these have been used as ‘working’ vehicles, you can be assured that they’ve been serviced and looked after over the years. But there are downsides – obviously these are high mileage cars, not to everyone’s taste, not the fastest on the road (70 – 75mph maximum) and mainly automatic.

Vintage Bath Canvas

Vintagebath You may be stuck with an anonymous mass-produced modern bath because it just isn’t viable to have a stylish Victorian one, but perhaps you could hang a picture of one in your bathroom instead.

These Vintage Bath Canvases are available in two designs, the damask patterned bath pictured here or a floral patterned one. Both are 39cm x 50cm and cost around £42 each.

They can be ordered from The Lemon Tree Shop.

Red Lace Up Wellies

RedwelliesSome times it feels like the rain will never stop and one days like these, there is no point in ruining a decent pair of shoes. But what to wear instead? Wellies? There is certainly plenty of choice out there although many designs are in danger of being too twee or straying into novelty territory.

Not these Red Lace Up Wellies though. These are infinitely tougher looking than your average Wellington boot, reminiscent in fact of the cherry Doc Martens beloved of many a punk or skinhead. Not cheap at £70 and only available in sizes 36 to 41, they are however made from 100% waterproof rubber and have a fleece lining.

They can be bought online from Cocoa Bean.
