Beatles album-themed messenger bags

Beatles_bags

One thing the world isn’t short of is Beatles memorabilia. And although we’ve tried hard to avoid it, we are strangely drawn to these Beatles album-themed messenger bags.

The two pictured here are Revolver and Yellow Submarine, but other themes are available. All are fully licensed, made from PVC and with adjustable straps and inside pockets. And if you go for the Yellow Submarine bag, you also get the rather smart submarine fastener.

They retail for £34.99.

Ikea’s retro Gisela fabric range

Ikea_gisela

Recently, Ikea has been a good place to look for some stylish retro-styled fabric, including the PS Grea and the Linda Svensson range. Now there’s another one to add to your list – the Gisela range.

Not all the fabrics in the range excite us, but the two above are really cool op-art influenced designs and a bargain at just £3.59 per metre.

Inspiral Carpets milk bottle

Inspirals
While we’re talking about collectable milk bottles, it’s probably a good time to flag up one of the most collectable milk bottles of recent years – the Inspiral Carpets milk bottle, which is currently featured over at Electric Roulette.

Dropping on doorsteps in the middle of 1990, these bottles were everywhere. However, a mix of people handing them back (as you should with glass bottles) and breakages has seen their numbers drop considerably ever since.

These days, you’ll have to pay something like £15-£20 to pick one up. But if you see one you should – it’s a fantastic piece of Madchester memorabilia.

Vintage milk bottle light shades

Vintage_bottle

Here’s something quirky, but also eco-friendly – vintage milk bottle light shades.

All the bottles in the range (there’s many than the four pictured here) are pre-1987 bottles, featuring advertisements of the day. You could argue they’re collector’s pieces on that basis alone. But no, they have a practical purpose, amended to be used as quirky light shades.

All are limited in numbers (they are vintage items after all) and are available online for £28 each.

Castiglioni’s 1962 Taccia lamp

Taccia

The Taccia lamp is a remarkable piece of design from 1962 – and it’s still in production today – at a price.

It was designed, by the Castiglioni brothers for Flos in 1962 as a functionable/adjustable table lamp for the modern home. The base is a fluted column of aluminium, topped with a clear glass shade with an aluminium reflector, which can be rotated to direct the light.

Not small (as you can see form the second image), but if you have the space for it, you can pick one up for £970, with a choice of silver or blackened aluminium base.
