Elmira’s Northstar retro kitchen range

Northstar2
Just when you thought Smeg was about as retro as the kitchen got, a small American manufacturer comes along with a retro range for your entire kitchen. Elmira specialises in antique-style kitchen appliances, but their most eye-catching products is definitely the Northstar range.

The Northstar line of fridges, stoves and range hoods is inspired by 1950s American cars, right down to the vintage car colours. They ooze retro style on the outside, but are very much state-of-the-art inside. And for all this craftsmanship you’ll pay a premium. Fridges and cookers start at $4,000 (£2,135), with a matching cooker hood costing $1,100 (£587).

We’ve not seen them available in the UK, but if you contact the company, I’m sure they’ll confirm any suppliers.

Crochet iPod cases

Crochet_1  Where the past meets the present. In the 60s and early 70s, there was a huge craze for crochet, with books and magazines devoted to making useful household items, toys and fashion out of looped fabric.

Thankfully, those days are gone – but the art of crochet still rears its ugly head occasionally – as with these Crocheted Cuties by Chuckles Central. Though to give them their due, they certainly have the cuteness factor on their side. Made of yarn, buttons and googly eyes, they should fit most iPods, but might not offer the snuggest of fits for your nano.

Available now online from the US, you can pick one up for $22.

Retro floor standing ashtray

Ashtray Let’s get one thing clear – smoking isn’t big or clever. And it makes your house smell. But if you’re going to do it, you might as well have somewhere cool to flick your ash. So instead of that ashtray you stole from the pub, why not pick up one of these Retro floor standing ashtrays?

They’re height adjustable and bend anyway you like (so you can share one). And they’re available in a choice of colours to fit in with your decor. Not exactly stunning, but about the best new ashtray we’ve seen around.

Available now, you can pick one up for around £15.

Buy Syd Barrett’s Cambridge house

Syd_house We’ve already covered the auction for Syd Barrett’s belongings, now you Syd obsessives can have the roof from over his head, as Syd Barrett’s Cambridge house is now on the market for £300,000.

The house (pictured here), in the south east of the city, is located in a cul-de-sac and has 3 bedrooms, 2 reception rooms, a first floor bathroom and a 110ft garden. According to his sister Rosemary: "Roger loved the peace and quiet of St Margarets Square, hearing the children in the road playing and enjoying cycling to the local shops. He put his stamp on the house with frequent redecoration, building his own furniture, changing doors etc."

Obviously any artefacts not nailed down have gone off to auction, but it’s still a rare chance to own the ultimate piece of Barrett memorabilia.
