Mick and Keith – the Rolling Stones toys

Jagger1
We’ve already featured the Sex Pistols toys, but if they’re a but too anarchic for you, how about these Rolling Stones toys?

Richards1
Well, we say Rolling Stones – but there’s only Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Modelled on the two rockers from their Exile On Main Street period (which I think was 1972),  you get Mick looking a bit camp with a blue jumpsuit, pink waistband, white boots and microphone, along with Keith (before he fell out of the tree – and indeed before the wear and tear of rocker life hit home) in jeans, medallion man shirt and purple cowboy boots. Oh yes – and with a Fender Telecaster.

The toys are made by Japanese firm Medicom, as part of their Real Action Heroes series and are priced at 17,640 Yen, which is around £80 for each figure.

We’ve not seen these for sale outside Japan as yet – but if you’ve seen them, let us know.

Bubble Car Museum

Schmitt1
You don’t need a time machine to see a showroom full of bubble cars, you just need a trip to Lincolnshire (in the UK) to the Bubble Car Museum, which is dedicated to the microcar.

Microcars are anything under 700cc and usually derive from the 50s and 60s, made by UK makers such as Bond and Berkeleys of Biggleswade and European manufacturers such as Messerschmitt, Isetta, Vespa and Heinkel.

The museum has over 70 exhibits on show, along with technical data and memorabilia – and you can even drive some of the cars around the countryside too. And if the short drives get you thinking about owning a bubble car, you can also buy one from the museum. A range of vehicles are currently for sale, including a 1960 Messerschmitt KR200 (similar to the one pictured). The price? A whacking £7,950. But don’t worry – other models and restoration projects start from around £500.

Build your own 70s house

Dailymail_1 You can keep your cottages and your new-build mock-Georgian homes – I want the same house now as I did as a child, a stylish early 70s number, just like Bob and Thelma’s place in Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads.

Sadly, these fine examples of housebuilding excess and design daring have now been destroyed beyond belief – usually via conservatories, double glazing doors and block paving. But fear not – we’ve found a way of re-creating the 70s home with out an extortionate architect’s fee – the Daily Mail Book Of House Plans 1972.

Yes, our latest junkshop gem is a shrine to 70s design. Picked up for less than £1, it packs in over 50 different house specifications of the day, including full floor plans, interior ideas and a number of suppliers who could make your dreams come true. Read on after the turn for a couple of interior shots from the book – and if you see a copy – buy it!
