Rupert Sanderson retro luggage

Sanderson_luggage
As well as making expensive exclusive shoes, Rupert Sanderson also sells some very impressive retro-styled luggage.

Here’s the tale – last year Rupert found an old established family run luggage manufacturer just north of Milan. Rather than buying some, he approached the company with the idea of making a small collection of cases and bags, not unlike the old-style steamer trunks.

So here it is – made from cream velum (bleached kid skin) and, in the case of the ridged models, stretched over lightweight wooded frames. All the pieces are edged and are available in a choice of 22 different colours of leather.

It’s also made to order, so expect to wait two months. And the price? Well, let’s just say if you need to ask, you might need to consider other options.

Taking the Mickey

Mickey_clash
In a similar vein to the Ramones bears by Toxic Teddies and the Sex Pistols Kubricks by Medicom, here’s another take on the punk toy theme. This time it’s Japanese brand ROEN who have teamed up with Medicom and Disney, creating a Mickey Mouse figurine based on the iconic London Calling sleeve photo of Paul Simonon.

Currently it’s not available outside Japan but with a bit of luck and fast action you might be able to get the figurine on eBay for around $50.

Sure to be a future collectible. Wonder what’s next, Buzzcocks beanie babies?

Vintage Braniff Airline posters

Havana I’m always on the look out for good quality vintage artwork – and thanks to the internet, you can find some really obscure gems if you look hard enough.

We’re really taken by these vintage Braniff Airline posters right now, which were printed and used to promote the airline in 1950. Over 50 years later and this style of artwork is back – and very hip.

These orginal silkscreen prints, sized around 20 inches by 26 inches, are available to buy from US retailer Art Holdings and for items with such an age and look to them are a steal at $100 (which is roughly £54). Buy oen and frame it – it could be a good investment for the future.
