eBay watch: 1970s chrome and black desk lamp

Stil

Love this design, although the 1970s chrome and black desk lamp doesn't come with a maker's name sadly.

According to the seller, the lamp was probably made in Italy, that mix of black and chrome, with a modernist feel and directional light for reading or working.

That same seller says the lamp is in 'very, very good above-average condition' with 'only marginal signs of age'. Good price right now too, just £1.

eBay watch: Patrice Dupont-designed Philips 303 UFO portable record player with a low starting price

Ufo

I know this is something we have featured before, but I can't resist flagging up this Patrice Dupont-designed Philips 303 UFO portable record player, because the starting price is so low.

All too often, this icon of the 1970s space age era comes with a substantial 'Buy It Now' price, but this example can find its own price. As auctions always should. This UFO has the red cover and has apparently been checked by a 'specialist', with 'quite expensive, Germanium Transistors' replaced, so it's good to go for many more years. it also has a new battery compartment (works with battery or mains) and plays 'like a new one'.

A few minor usage marks, says the seller, but nothing more. Which is why it's worth talking about. Bidding stands at £1 right now.

eBay watch: 1950s midcentury-style side table

Midcentury_table

Love this design – and right now, this 1950s midcentury-style side table isn't any money.

Details are scarce (manufacturer and wood type for example), but thankfully there are large images, showing off that really smart abstract design on the table's surface. Below that are three angles legs, with a 'protective band' around the edge of the table.

Condition is described as 'excellent' with 'only slightest wear'. If that's fine with you, the table is currently at just £9.

eBay watch: 1960s Grillo telephone by Marco Zanuso and Richard Sapper

Phone

Interesting design, although if you opt to bid for this 1960s Grillo telephone by Marco Zanuso and Richard Sapper, you'll need to be in the right country to use it or get someone to adapt it for you.

Might be worth doing though, as this is a really stylish item. Designed by Marco Zanuso and Richard Sapper back in 1966, it's incredibly reminiscent of the era, especially in that orange colour. Clamshell design, dial inside – it's going to make your calls, but it's not going to get you through call centre menus.

It's working and described as being in 'excellent condition' with 'no cracks, no chips, no stains or discolouration' and currently at a price of £30.98.

eBay watch: 1970 Volvo P1800 E sports car

Volvo

If you are a fan of the cult 1960s show The Saint, you'll recognise the car immediately, as Simon Templar, played by Roger Moore drove a similar (but slightly earlier) one. Now you can get your hands on a 1970 Volvo P1800 E sports car, crime fighter or not.

Apparently Moore loved the car so much, he bought one for his own personal use. You can see why. This one is the 'E' model (a fuel-injected version and the first with four-wheel disc brakes), which has apparently done 57,039 on that 1,986cc engine amongst six previous owners.

The current owner said 'no expense spared' when it has come to upkeep – see the listing for all the additions and upgrades, right down to a CD player and high-end sound system. See also the listing for many more images of what looks like an impressive example of an all-time and fairly practical classic. Bidding right now is at £1,800.

eBay watch: 1950s home cocktail drinks cabinet / bar

Bar

You want kitsch? We got Kitsch. In fact, it doesn't get much more kitschier than this 1950s home cocktail drinks cabinet / bar.

Screaming the era (especially when it comes to the outside design and shape), this period gem opens up, complete with working light, to expose all the accessories you need for knocking up a quick cocktail – two cocktail glasses, six stainless steel olive picks, a stainless steel lemon squeezer and a range of different coloured leaf design rubber coasters still in their original box. Nice. Two sliding doors at the bottom that open to provide space for your bottles too.

No in-depth details of condition, but obviously it will have some wear from the last 50 years or so. Doesn't look bad from the pictures though. Prices isn't bad right now either – just £1.04.
