Cobra

A real midcentury gem has been newly-reissued, this Cobra lamp by Greta Grossman.

Dating back to 1950s (when it won the Good Design Award), the name is pretty self-explanatory, looking very much like a cobra's neck. The tubular arm cam be bent in numerous direction, while the base is powder-coated aluminium, with cast iron ballast.

Grasshopper_01_500(1)

The floor lamp was first produced in 1947 and is instantly recognisable for its tubular tripod stand. It's been re-issued by Danish company Gubi who are producing it in five different colours – including three variants on grey, as well as jet black and a shade they're calling vintage red.

Louis Poulsen-style Oslo pendant from BHS

Oslo

The lighting range at BHS has been providing some great retro inspired numbers recently. This Oslo pendant can be added to that list.

Its name suggests Scandinavian influences. In this case it seems to reference the designs produced for Louis Poulsen by Poul Henningsen, specifically the PH Snowball pendant light, the design of which dates to 1924. This high street version is made from white gloss steel, using the same kind of curves as the PH light to diffuse the light.

While prices for Louis Poulsen lamps go into the thousands, this pendant costs only £170.

eBay watch: 1970s Crayonne Moon table lamp for Habitat

Crayonne

We have featured one of these in the past, but if you missed out on that 1970s Crayonne Moon table lamp for Habitat, there's another one there now with a low starting price.

As we mentioned before, Crayonne was a Habitat brand in the 1970s, with this lamp being sold in the early to mid-70s in the design store. I stands just over 21cm tall, with the lamp a mix of yellow plastic and chrome.

According to seller, the yellow plastic is 'crazed', but is listed as a design fault rather than more recent damage. It's also been checked and a new plug added. Right now, it's at £4.99.

1920s Bellevue AJ3 Desk Light by Arne Jacobsen

Arne

A very stylish reissue from &Tradition, this Bellevue AJ3 Desk Light by Arne Jacobsen.

Would you believe this dates back to 1929? It does indeed, inspired by modernist designs of the Bauhaus era and itself the inspiration for later Jacobsen designs. For your money, you get a swan-neck design with tubular steel for the frame and a lacquered aluminium shade. Simple, but effective.

Black and white are the colour options, £395 is the price for either.
