eBay watch: 1970s Guzzini Sorella space age table lamp

Sorella

Look familiar? Well, if you happen to be a fan of either Space 1999 or James Bond's Moonraker, the Guzzini Sorella space age table lamp probably does.

It was set item of choice for 70s 'space' TV and movies and you can see why this 1972 design by Studio Tecnico Harvey fit the bill – even now the angled light looks seriously ahead of its time.

Rarely seen on eBay, this particular example has no chips to the plastic and is sold with the original cord and switch. Slight discolouration with age as you might expect from plastic though. Currently starting at £125, that's a fraction of the price they usually go for on eBay. See over the page for a shot of the light on Space 1999 – and thanks to Andrew Graham for the tip off.

eBay watch: 1970s space age desk lamp

Desklamp

Something of a bargain if you like the colour red – this space age lamp, available right now on eBay.

It's a great space age design, fun and funky, but without a maker attributed to it. No matter, this mix of lacquered aluminium and chrome is certainly an eye-catching piece, designer or not.

It's described as being in 'very good condition' and 'full working order', with a few faint marks and scratches – see the site for full details. the price? Right now it's just 99 pence.

eBay watch: 1960s Limburg 6047 glass table lamp

Linberg

Here's something you'll not see everyday – the Limburg 6047 glass table lamp.

The product of the Limburg Glashütte glass factory and made sometime between 1960 and 1970s, it's an amazing design, as much sculpture as functional object and the kind of thing you might expect to see in an early 60s sci-fi flick.

Described as being in 'good used condition', it's up on a 'Buy It Now' for £300, with the option of making an offer too if you want to go in under that. Not cheap – but when will you see one again?

Jonathan Adler Relief Drip ceramic lamp

Adler_lamp

The Isamu Noguchi lamps of the 1950s have certainly been an inspiration for many modern-day pieces, even from the likes of Ikea. So it's no surprise to see the look turning up again – with a twist – in the Jonathan Adler Relief Drip ceramic lamp.

The profile is very much the same – that usual bulbous shade and tripod-style base, this time in polished nickel. But this is no paper shade, the one here is an unglazed translucent porcelain with perforations, a 150-watt bulb making sure the lamp emits a strong glow from within.

Available directly from the Jonathan Adler site, price is $295.

Cyber wall lamp by Litecraft

Litecraft lamp

With its distinctive looks, this Cyber wall lamp could easily fit into a 1970s interior. However, it's a contemporary design, courtesy of Litecraft, and something of a bargain too.

The lamp is made from a glass shade with an orange surround. Made from plastic, the colour, material and shape of the surround all help to create the retro look. The wall fitting is chrome. On looks alone, it's an interesting piece, but the lamp also promises to offer soft and ambient lighting.

Sounds worth trying out for the price of only £12.90.

Frandsen 1960s Ball pendant light

Frandsen

Sometimes simple is often the most stylish – as is the case with the Frandsen 1960s Ball pendant light.

Designed in Denmark back in 1969 and remaining pretty much timeless ever since the Frandsen Ball is pretty much what it says – a ball-shaped metal pendant with 2m of transparent cord for a 'floating' effect.

You can choose from a range of colours including limited editions and a chrome finish, all of which retail for around the same price – £60. Not bad for a design classic.
