Marks and Spencer Anglepoise-style oversized floor lamp

Ms_giant

Some time ago, we featured the original Giant Anglepoise lamp back in 2007, selling for an equally hefty £1,660. we've also seen something similar from B&Q with the Tecton lamp, for a more affordable £79. Now there's something shiny from Marks and Spencer in a similar vein – the Oversized Task Floor Lamp.

It's actually got a more modernist feel, both in construction and with that nickel plated steel finish, with the lamp also offering up a round base, adustable stand and a height of around 166cm, which is just short of 6ft tall.

Check out more images on the M&S site, with the price at £125.

1960s-style large curve floor lamp at Marks and Spencer

Curve

You can go to Heals and pick up  a classic 1960s Arco floor lamp by Achille Castiglioni, or you can save some cash and go for the same 'look' with this large curve floor lamp at Marks and Spencer.

Obviously there are differences, not least in the bulk of the base and the amount of curve offered. But with almost £1,300 between the two price tags, who is complaining? The M&S version has a marble base, a 'bubble' design shade and a body of chromed steel, with a switch on the cable for control.

The whole thing stands at 179cm tall, which is around 6ft. So mail order is probably the way to go! If you do want it, the curve floor lamp is available online, selling for just £85.

There's a significant price tag attached to the look too. This lamp costs $695, with prices for the new lights starting at $295.

Midcentury-style Harvey light shade at John Lewis

Harvey

It looks like an expensive designer piece, but this Harvey light shade at John Lewis is very much in the 'affordable' bracket.

It obviously takes inspiration from midcentury Scandinavian design, not a million miles from the Louis Poulsen PH50 lamp with three concentric plates and a black painted finish for the metal shade.

Available online, the Harvey shade sells for £50.

Yamagiwa Taliesin 1 table light by Frank Lloyd Wright

Frank

Designed back in 1923 and now reissued by Yamagiwa, the Taliesin 1 table light by Frank Lloyd Wright is back to add a distinctive modernist touch to your home.

Indeed, it did just that for Frank Lloyd Wright's home, the architect/designer creating this for his own Taliesin home, using several around the house. Designed to look like a small building, the lamp is available in cherry wood or ash wood for the frame supporting that roof-like shade.

Available online, you can pick one up for £715.
