Architect’s lamp from Bluesuntree

Architects
Looking for a lamp with retro style? How about this Architect's lamp from Bluesuntree?

In terms of the lamp's head, it's a very similar shape to one of Arne Jacobsen designs for Louis Poulsen, done in the early 60s. Couple that with the adjustable aluminium body and the weighted steel base and you've got a handsome design at a reasonable price.

How much? The lamp costs £125.

Louis Poulsen-style Oslo pendant from BHS

Oslo

The lighting range at BHS has been providing some great retro inspired numbers recently. This Oslo pendant can be added to that list.

Its name suggests Scandinavian influences. In this case it seems to reference the designs produced for Louis Poulsen by Poul Henningsen, specifically the PH Snowball pendant light, the design of which dates to 1924. This high street version is made from white gloss steel, using the same kind of curves as the PH light to diffuse the light.

While prices for Louis Poulsen lamps go into the thousands, this pendant costs only £170.

eBay watch: A pair of 1960s Poul Henningsen-designed PH 4/3 pendant lights by Louis Poulsen

Ph

A long title, but a small price for some designer lighting of the 1960s – these Poul Henningsen-designed PH 4/3 pendant lights by Louis Poulsen.

Yes, not one, but two of these 1966-designed lights, part of a series of lights dating back to the mid-1920s. These particular variants  are primarily for downward illumination, based on the principle of a reflecting multi-shade system, which creates 'a harmonious and glare free illumination'.

The two on eBay aren't perfect, with a few light scratches and a small dent to the top of one of the lamps. But they do have the original Louis Poulsen stickers still attached and are currently available as a pair for just 99p. A real bargain.

eBay watch: Original 1970s Verner Panton Panthella floor lamp

Panthella

You can still buy these and you can find out details of the new ones in a previous post, but if you want an original Verner Panton Panthella floor lamp with a bit of age and less of a price tag, eBay is currently the place to be.

The original was designed in 1970 by Panton for Louis Poulsen. A space age classic, it had that stylish curved shape, made of high pressure moulded opal acrylic, with the supporting stand in high pressure moulded polycarbonate structure built around a steel stem.

This one is described as a 'very early edition', with a few tiny age marks to reassure you. It's also got the original paper label attached. £450 is the approximate price of a new one, but this one is on eBay right now for just 99p.

Felix Rise and Fall retro ceiling light at John Lewis

Felix

Look familiar? Well, to us it looks not unlike the classic Louis Poulsen PH lamp, which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary and comes with a hefty price tag. The Felix Rise and Fall ceiling light is a little more affordable.

It's very much in the same style, those individual shades offering up glare-free light, but with that handle and 'Rise and Fall' mechanism, you can bring the light just a little bit closer when you need it.

The shade is a black-painted metal, the detailing chrome and you cna user it as a dimmable light. Price? That's £120.
