eBay watch: Large 1970s Italian wall shelving unit

Italian

Absolutely love this design. Indeed, if I had a room big enough to take it, I would be all this large 1970s Italian wall shelving unit for it.

As I said above, it's an Italian design from the 1970s, reminding me of Biba if you like – 70s with an art nouveau twist. You can imagine it getting pride of place in a hip, extravagant home 'back in the day'. Indeed, the seller claims it was 'probably originally from Heals'.

In terms of the details, it's 172cm in height and 242cm in length, as well as being a mix of glass shelves, glass dividers and that metal frame and dark base. It does come apart from easy transporting, you'll be pleased to know. Condition seems to be good, see the small print for the detail and the price right now is a 'buy it now' or 'best offer' of £1,200.

eBay watch: Early 1960s shelf unit with Jacqueline Groag-designed panels

Groag

A real gem of a design on eBay right now that's certain to appeal to lovers of the late 50s and early 60s-  this shelf unit with Jacqueline Groag-designed panels.

Check out the full listing to see those Warerite (formica) Alexandretta pattern panels close up, I don't think the image above really does them justice. You might well have seen them elsewhere too – they have been widely featured in period design books.

They form part of a unit that stands around 3ft high, with 'excellent original condition' confirmed by the seller. £50 is the starting price, with no bids on the book as yet. Could end up as a real bargain.

The handy storage system, which features contrasting coloured box files set against dark shelves, is inspired by Brutalist architecture. It is made from Valchromat, a wood fibre board (from forest waste and recycled pine) coloured with organic dyes and bonded with resin.

It costs £1,495 and is only available from Heal's.
