A black, grey or navy coat would be the practical choice, but where is the fun in that? A yellow coat will set you apart from the masses and bring a little cheer on your grey winter days. See by Chloé have produced such a coat in the Oversized Mod Coat.

It is made from a wool mix in a bright yellow colour, and also features oversized flapped patch pockets, a Peter Pan style collar and three-quarter length sleeves. It costs £385, which may not be cheap, but you probably only ever going to buy one yellow coat.

For statement outerwear of excellent quality, Jaeger is the best place to shop. Peddling classics with a twist, the shop’s coats and jackets take inspiration from timeless tailoring to provide some great retro pieces.

This Double Faced Jacket is a great late 60s/early 70s style couture piece, with oversized bell sleeves creating a striking silhouette. The pale green might not be for everyone, but if you dare, the detailing is kept simple enough to carry it off.

Not everything with a 50s edge has to mean full circle skirts and prom style. If you’re looking for formal style that’s easy to wear but still has a touch of fifties retro at its heart, this Milly dress is perfect.

With a more fitted pencil skirt style, it’s much easier to wear for most of us. The cinched waist with bow and the notched neckline are my favourite details, adding a subtle flair that doesn’t swamp the polka dots.

Vintage fashion seekers will know exactly how difficult it increasingly becomes to find vintage 60s original, especially by any of the big names of the time. They barely come much bigger than Mary Quant, so I’m sure I won’t be the only one interested in these original late-60’s platform shoes by the label.

In very good condition for a pre-owned pair, these shoes still bear the Mary Quant logo on the insole, if slightly faded. This towering pair look great and are still unusual, making them both one for fashion lovers and collectors alike.

They’re currently on sale from Candy Says, though there’s obviously only one pair available. It’s a UK Size 4 and will cost you a very reasonable £95.
