Retro Rooms: Kelly Bryden
Our Retro Rooms feature moves back to the US, with Kelly Bryden offering us a glimpse into part of her house in Wilmington, Delaware. The best way to describe it is to leave it to Kelly - and don't forget to see over the turn for additional images.
If you want to see your house, room or collectables on this site, just send over a couple of pictures and words of explanation to info@retrotogo.com and we'll show the world!
Over to Kelly...
"In the 10 years that I have owned my home, I have always wanted to redecorate this room, but never put much effort in to it due to the fact that we rarely used it. It is a large room with a very large window and I feared that it couldn't be re-done without spending a fortune. Since my husband collects vintage glass and ceramic-ware, I thought that adding some shelving would be a good place to showcase his "finds", as well as give the room some much needed warmth and personality."
"I am particularly proud of the valance I sewed for my window, which is made from a lightweight Herman Miller upholstry fabric found on ebay for $12. I created a "starburst" mirror from wooden parts (amazingly easy), added some boomerang-shaped tables and prints with colorful geometric themes. The lamps were purchased a few years ago from a company in Los Angeles, but were never as dramatic as they are now against the warm, butterscotch color that I used to paint the room."
"My goal was to add a kind of a classy, retro feel to the room without making people feel like they couldn't sit down and relax. My only problem now is that I filled one of my walls with the shelves and I am scrambling to find items to put on them. I guess I over-estimated my husband's glass collection! I'm sure I will have no trouble in the months to come seeking out unique pieces to fill the spaces!"
