Yet another retro playset from the German toymaker. This time an offer to go back to the 1960s with the Playmobil Mini Cooper set.
Well actually, the maker has this down as a 1970s set, but it looks more ‘60s Carnaby Street to me, The Mini, the look, the people. It’s very much of that era.
As I said, another retro set from Playmobile, which seems to be making something of a habit of creating them. In fact, you might recall me compiling my 10 of the best retro Playmobil toys and sets late last year. Everything from the James Bond Goldfinger car through to a hip retro pad. I suspect someone at Playmobil has realised that it’s just as important to appeal to the parents as the kids!
And this will appeal to a good few parents. Especially retro-loving ones.
You get a classic Mini Cooper with a contrasting roof and chrome-like detailing. One with an opening boot and room for your figures to get on. In addition, you get a couple of characters dressed in bold vintage clobber, your own dog (a dalmation) and an old-school policeman to keep an eye on law and order.
My kids love Playmobil, so this is already on their list. They’re less concerned about the retro angle, they just love the car and the people. But I suspect a few parents will be eyeing this one too. It’s the kind of toy you won’t mind them leaving out.
Playmobil doesn’t come cheap, but from experience, it is built to last and does retain a value, So in light of that, £59.99 for the set might be a price you are willing to pay.
