Alan Aldridge-designed Mini One

Aldridge_mini

We featured the Alan Aldridge exhibition at the Design Museum previously, but we’ve just discovered one of the purpose-built exhibits – this Alan Aldridge-designed Mini One.

It’s a re-creation of a classic cover of the Sunday Times Magazine from 1965, but instead of a 1960s model, the design has now been transferred to the modern-day Mini One (as well as last weekend’s Sunday Times magazine). The design itself is split over the sides of the car – driver’s side male, passenger’s side female.

You can check it for real at The Man with Kaleidoscope Eyes exhibition, which runs at the Design Museum until 25 January 2009. No word on a variation of the design being offered commercially – although it would certainly shift a few units.

Anthony Savini “Vacancy” Wall Mural

15582448_00_bNew York filmmaker Anthony Savini has designed some striking photo-realistic wall murals, on the theme of the road less travelled.

Pictured here is the one entitled “Vacancy” which features a motel vacancy sign against a backdrop of a deserted road. The image conjures up ideas of road trips and classic Americana, and would look great used in a dining room furnished in the 1950s diner style.

Printed on heavy duty paper, the mural is supplied in 8 easy-to-hang panels and comes with full instructions and paste for hanging. It costs $200 (approximately £110) from Urban Outfitters.

Poetryposters

H is for Home currently has a small selection of original Sixties Poetry Posters for sale.

Designed by Lucia Pearce, the posters were printed by Looart Press of Colorado Springs in the 1960s. Pearce was an artist involved in the protest movement in America who also worked for a time for Eames. The posters incorporate words and poetry by influential figures on the counterculture such as Lord Buckley and Khalil Gibran into Pearce’s flower power designs.

There are four posters available, measuring approximately 53cm x 76cm and costing £60. Visit H is for Home to buy.
