Pretty Peacock Cushion

Clare%20nicolson%20pretty%20peacock%20cushion

Clare Nicolson’s combinations of birds and vintage fabrics will be familiar to regular readers as we’ve featured her products before.

This Pretty Peacock Cushion has all her signature elements; a digital print of a peacock that looks to be made from vintage floral material, a contrasting background and the reverse of the cushion made from vintage fabric. The design uses big daisy prints and a mixture of brown, orange, pink and yellows to add to the retro appeal.

The square cushion measures 14 inches and is supplied with a cushion insert, priced £40. Buy online from Clare Nicolson’s website.

Andy Warhol Cars Calendars

E540334323

A new design to enter Teneues calendar range for 2010 is the Andy Warhol Cars.

The images used in the calendars are taken from the series of images Warhol created for Mercedes Benz in 1986/7 to commemorate the 100th birthday of the automobile. The series was supposed to consist of 80 images based on 20 types of Mercedes to tell the story of the car, but unfortunately Warhol died leaving only 35 images of 8 cars completed.

There are two calendars available; the poster calendar measuring 48 x 64 cm for £24.99 and the standard 30cm square calendar for £9.99. Even for someone like myself who isn’t a huge car enthusiast, this makes an interesting change from the usual Warhol images of Marilyn and the soup cans. Buy online directly from Teneues.

Quintuplets Paper Doll Books

378

We have featured several paper dolls in the past, but these Quintuplets Paper Doll Books possibly have the most interesting background story.

There are five books available, each being based on one of the Dionne quintuplets, who were the first set of quintuplets known to survive beyond infancy. Born in 1934 in Ontario, Canada, the girls were taken away from their parents and exploited by the Government as a tourist attraction. The paper dolls books were part of the merchandise being originally printed in 1940 with each girl, Marie, Yvonne, Emilie, Annette and Cecile having her own wardrobe of clothes.

These reprints are now available to buy from Labour and Wait for £7 each.

Austerity Era Cushions

14-Save-kitchen-waste-pigs-500

Heraldic Needlepoint has a great range of Austerity Era Cushions, which take images from posters issued by various departments of the British Government during previous periods of austerity, which may be equally relevant in these times.

These do include the now (over) familiar Keep Calm and Carry On and the well known Dig for Victory, but there are also a series of designs about feeding waste to pigs and hens and several on the “Make Do and Mend” sentiment. My favourite is the one with the warning that “To Dress Extravagantly in War time is Worse than Bad Form, It is Unpatriotic”.

The cushions all cost £34.99 and are available to buy from Heraldic Needlepoint.

Bengt Johansson Christmas Pendant

Liten_stjarna_221

This Christmas Pendant by Bengt Johansson is proof that you can have retro Christmas decorations without any hint of gaudiness.

Based on traditional Swedish designs, the pendants are made from pine using traditional methods. The pendants are available in a choice of sizes, the small measures 30cm and costs £33.91, whilst the large measures 42 cm and costs £51.30. The design is simple yet stunning and the only downside I can see is that you may not want to take it down after the festive period.

There is a three week delivery time from the Scandinavian Design Center, so you will have to order quickly to receive yours in time for this Christmas.
