Corioliss Mini Vintage Hairdryer

Minidryer_m

The Corioliss Mini Vintage Hairdryer combines a retro design with modern technology.

The hairdryer has been designed mainly with travel in mind – as well as its compact size, it is has multi voltage for global use and comes in a co-ordinating travel pouch. It has also two drying speed settings but its best feature is that great retro shape.

The dryer is available in a range of colours. You can buy it in powder blue or grey from Look Fantastic or in pink or a floral pattern from Heals. The plain colour options cost £25 and the floral one £26.

Ken Eardley Ceramics

100_2360

Ken Eardley has created a collection of ceramics with distinctively retro patterns, with designs reminiscent of Scandinavian folk art and Orla Kiely’s designs.

Eardley’s background is in textile but has moved into ceramics, which on the basis of his current collection, he certainly has a talent for. The range includes mugs (priced £19 for the small version, £24 for the large), bowls (£24 for a sugar bowl up to £68 for a salad bowl), plates (£24 for a side plate, £35 for a dinner plate, £84 for a serving platter), jugs and vases (both from £24). All of the pieces are hand-made using glazed earthenware.

You can view and buy the whole collection online at Yellowhouse Art.

Nick Munro Mirrors

230429812

Part of the range made exclusively for John Lewis, Nick Munro has created two mirrors that would work well with retro décor.

Pictured here is the Vanish Mirror which is so named because the concentric rectangles pattern gives the illusion of a distant vanishing point. To me, it also suggests 1960s interiors. The other design, Bubbles, is just as retro looking, featuring multiple cut-out circles of varying sizes, to create an eye-catching design, although probably not a suitable mirror to look in for applying make-up.

Both designs cost £195 from John Lewis.

Yvonne Gregory Coin Purse

Coinpursegregory

Yvonne Gregory was a photographer in her own right early part of the 20th Century, but she was also married to Bertram Park, one of the most successful society photographers of his day. The striking image that appears on the Yvonne Gregory Coin Purse is a photograph of Gregory taken by her husband in 1919.

The black & white picture has been recreated on the leather purse, made from high quality leather by Irish company Tinnakeenly Leathers. The purse costs £7.50 from the National Portrait Gallery shop with a discounted price of £6.75 for NPG members. There is also a matching compact mirror for £3.50 (£3.15 for members).

Visit the National Portrait Gallery website to buy.

Albert Chair by Melanie Porter

Albert2

The recent spate of union jack products has left me rather bored of the red, white and blue pattern, but the Albert Chair by Melanie Porter is a different matter.

The knitwear designer has taken a vintage chair and reupholstered it with a handknitted cable union jack. The result is a great statement piece of furniture. The Albert Chair costs £2,500.

Contact Melanie Porter via her website for full details.

Catchphrase Print

Catchphraseprint

Created by the small design company Ink Prints, the Catchphrase Print consists of nothing but well-known catchphrases from British television shows of yesteryear.

Central is Bruce Forsyth’s Play Your Cards Right catchphrase, “Nice to See You to See You Nice”. Other gameshow phrases are included alongside catchphrases from sitcoms including Are You Being Served, Reginald Perrin and Steptoe and Son and from comedians like Tommy Cooper and the Two Ronnies. The print is great for fans of classic British television, with it being fun to see how many you can identify. Further visual interest is added to the design by its use of a variety of different typefaces.

The print is sold framed priced £165 in a choice of either a black or white frame. Buy it online from Pedlars.
