Orla Kiely Home Collection for Target

Targetorla

Good news for readers in the USA (or anyone who will be over there in February). Orla Kiely has created a home décor collection for the American retail giant, Target.

There is a huge selection of products including mugs, glasses, plates, aprons, laundry bags, storage boxes and cushions, decorated with the distinctive Pears and Flower patterns. The items are unmistakably Orla Kiely, but this being a collaboration with Target, the prices are a lot lower than you’d normally buy for her designs. Prices range from $2.49 for a small tumbler up to £21.99 for a tablecloth. The canister pictured costs $17.99 and the tumbler is $3.49.

The collection goes on sale from 1 February in Target stores with a limited selection available online. A preview of the collection is available on the Target website now.

Tom Tierney Paper Doll Books

Tierneypaperdolls

Tom Tierney has had a successful career as an illustrator but his real success has been as the creator of an astounding range of paper dolls.

Back in 1975, looking for a unique gift for his mother, he remembered her collection of paper dolls and her love of 1930s film stars, so decided to make a set of dolls for her. His mother showed the dolls to her friends and from that his first book of dolls was published in 1976. Then from 1978, he has been producing further series of paper doll books for Dover Publishing which celebrates the memorable fashions of various eras as well as its stars.

A wide selection of these charming books are available on Amazon, including Glamorous Movie Stars of the Thirties, Rock and Pop Star of the Sixties and Great Fashion Designs of the Seventies, with prices around the £5 mark. A selection of books signed by Tom Tierney, including his American Families series are available to buy from Ebay via Tom Tierney’s website.

Edn-sun

Repeat Repeat is the award winning design company set up by designers Gillian Naylor and Mark Faulkner. New to their range is the Eden collection, a set of bone china mugs decorated with Fifties-inspired floral patterns.

Pictured here is the Sun Burst print. The designs use the same palette of colours, but where this one is predominantly brown, the Dandelion design is mainly red and the Dancing Flower is blue. As well as the patterns, the mugs have a great extra large handle, making it easier to pick up.

Santa & Cole TMM Floor Lamp

1576

The TMM Floor Lamp was designed by Miguel Milá in 1961 and entered in the Economic Furniture competition in 1962 where it won the ADI FAD Critics Prize. It was re-issued in 1988 by Santa & Cole who have been manufacturing it since.

It consists of a wooden shaft (in a choice of beech, wenge or cherry) with a drum-shaped parchment shade (in beige or white). The upper part of the shaft is cylindrical which allows the shade to move freely, so it can be adjusted to control the light.

The TMM Floor Lamp is available from Designer Lights with prices ranging from £385 for beech with a beige shade up to £483 for wenge with a white shade. Visit Designer Lights for al the options.
