Warhol Shoe Print in a Vintage Frame

Warholshoes

Perhaps not immediately recognisable as the work of the infamous pop artist, these beautifully framed shoe prints are indeed by Andy Warhol.

There are two prints available, each featuring a vintage-looking shoe with a famous saying with the word “shoe” inserted. The pink and blue court shoe print bears the words “you can lead a shoe to water, but you can’t make it drink” whilst the pointy green and yellow shoe print has the words “shoe bright, shoe light, the first shoe I’ve seen tonight”.

They are finished in a vintage white frame and are available to buy from Heal’s for £125. You can buy the prints unframed elsewhere on the internet, if you want to recreate the look yourself.

Vintage Lace Curtains

LacepanelsLace curtains are a vintage style that hasn’t quite crossed back over into mainstream décor and to many minds will still be the preserve of nosey neighbours. However, the small selection of Vintage Lace Curtains currently available from Rockett St George manages to dispel any images of suburban snoopers.

It is the modern colour palette (rather than the off-white of old) that makes these curtains worth considering. They are available in a choice of lipstick pink, candy pink, aubergine and blue. They measure 91cm x 230cm and cost £100 each but Rockett St George may be able to supply other sizes upon request.

Visit the Rockett St George website for more information.

Snack & Stack Utensil Set

Snackstack

The Rubik’s Cube has certainly inspired a few products, but nothing can compare to the influence that Lego has on product designers.

Adding to the already long list of lego-like products, is the Snack & Stack Utensil Set. Each set consists of a knife, a fork and a spoon, each with silicone handles that allow them to lock together in that famous Lego way.

A set can be ordered online from Pop Deluxe for just under $17 (around £10).

Britannia Retro Stove Kettle

405pic_large

Is boiling water on the stove more economical than using an electric kettle? In these uncertain economic times, it may be prudent to know the answer to this. However, with the Britannia Retro Stove Kettle the old-fashioned way looks good.

It is made from brushed stainless steel and its retro looks are enhanced by modern features of an insulated, easy-grip handle and an in-built limescale filter in spout.

It costs £48 and is available to buy from Iggloo. If you like the design of this kettle, but prefer an electric kettle, there is a similar shaped electric version also available at the higher price of £79.

Vintage Twin Flask

Twinflask

Whilst those of us in the Northern Hemisphere won’t be going on any picnics until next year, the colder months do bring bonfires, firework displays and Halloween, not to mention watching sport in the cold. So you could probably still put this Vintage Twin Flask to good use.

It dates back to the 1960s or 1970s and has a “twin airpot” vacuum flask system that allows you to carry hot and cold drinks at the same time. Alternatively, you could fill one side with tea and one side with coffee to give yourself a choice!

It costs £25 for H is for Home and comes with the original box. Visit the H is for Home website to buy.

V&A Early Bird Christmas Card Offer

Vacardsoffer

Ordinarily I wouldn’t be thinking about Christmas when it is only mid-October, but the V&A currently have an Early Bird Offer on selected Christmas Cards at their online shop.

Available until just 30th October, the offer includes several of their retro card designs with a third off the usual price if you buy in bulk. The font design above “Alphabet de Capitals fleronneer” was taken from a bookplate from an album of historical alphabets by Joseph Balthazar Silvestr dating back to 1843. The other image pictured here is a design by Sidney Sime which featured on the front cover of the magazine “Black and White” in 1899.

A pack of 10 cards normally costs £6.50, but for the offer period, you can buy 3 pack of 10 for £13. Visit the V&A Shop website to take advantage of the offer.
