The range comprises of a book bag, shoulder bag, cosmetics bag and wallet, all made from cotton with a PVC coating in the Multi Flower Check pattern. 30% of the retail price of each item in this collection will be given to the cancer charity, which is a great excuse to buy.

The Art of the Poster exhibition

ArtworkexhibitionFrom 16 October 2008 to 31 March 2009, London Transport Museum will be hosting a retrospective of a hundred years of outstanding posters design for London’s transport system.

Entitled “The Art of the Poster – A Century of Design", the exhibition will bring together 60 original posters along with photographs, letters, concept sketches and artist’s materials to trace the history of London Underground’s championing of design from the first poster commission in 1908.

The exhibition will be supported by a series of talks and event, and a book to accompany the exhibition will also be available. Further information can be found on the London Transport Museum’s website.

Burtons Heritage Tailoring range

High street men’s clothing store, Burton, has just introduced their new Heritage collection, which is a slicker retro-influenced line of tailoring.

Using traditional tailoring methods, the range comprises of suit jackets, trousers, shirts and ties that take their inspiration from Burton’s archive designs from the 40s, 50s and 60s. The suits are single-breasted, made from merino wool and feature traditional patterns such as Prince of Wales Check.

Suits cost £130 (£90 for the jacket, £40 for the trousers), shirts are £40 and silk ties are £15. The whole collection can be viewed online at the Burton website.

Mid-century style Tea & Coffee Set

Designed by Finnish company Tonfisk, this tea and coffee set is a super-stylish way to take tea (or indeed coffee) and when not in use, it will look good on display (preferably on a retro sideboard).

It comprises of two handmade ceramic cups and a pot, surrounded by bracelets of laminated bentwood to insulate and act as handles. These come with a matching walnut serving tray and a removable stainless steel tea and coffee filter.

Violetta Textiles Children’s Clothes

You may already be aware of the website Volksfaden, which sells a huge selection of fabrics, including designs by Alexander Henry and Amy Butler. Volksfaden has recently begun a collaboration with Violetta Textiles to produce a range of children’s clothing in fabrics taken from the Volksfaden collection.

The range mainly consists of dresses, based on the traditional German dirndl dress. Pictured on the left is the “Olive” dress made from a Michael Miller fabric by the name of “Far Out Florals”, trimmed with Erin McMorris’ “Blossoms” fabric. On the right, is “Hadley” which is made from the Marrimekko-like “Poppies” fabric by Wyndams.

The dresses are available in a variety of sizes, all currently on offer at Euro 39,50. There are also shirts for boys and tunic pant suits for girls. View the whole collection on the Volksfaden website.
