Disaster Designs specialise in retro style products, many of which feature kitsch images from the past. Amongst the Elvis and Marilyn Monroe placemats, they also have the Sunny Alarm Clock.
As you can see, the overall shape is very much in the style of a 1960s product, but this is increased by the image on the face. This is of a woman reclining against an orange and yellow backdrop complete with a beaded curtain.

Having just seen off Valentine’s Day, next up is Mother’s Day (2nd March in the UK) and then Easter. Yet more occasions when you may need to send a card. Rather than give more money to the big card manufacturers, may I suggest a Vintage Wallpaper Greeting Card instead?
Made by UK/Australian company Lark, the card is handmade using vintage 1960s wallpaper. There are also matching gift tags available too.
You may be able to make something similar yourself, but as the card only costs £2.50, it is a lot easier to just buy one ready made from the Lark website.
You are spoilt for choice with digital radios and there are plenty in retro-styles, but if you really want to take things back to the past, you can’t get much more retro than this Crystal Radio Receiver Kit.

Their website assures that the kit contains “everything you need to make a Crystal Radio” although personally I’ve no idea what might be required for such a task! Thankfully, for the radio-building novice, such as myself, it also comes with clear instructions along with a potted history of radio.

Apparently some DJs these days are using i-pods to play music in clubs. Shocking! We much prefer the old fashioned way (no surprise there) of vinyl being played on a turntable. In tribute to what we hope isn’t a dying skill, we’ve found this piece of art entitled “Old’s Cool Decks”.
It is a canvas measuring 30cm by 30cm, featuring a classic turntable in a lime green colour on a black background. It looks pretty good and it has a title that involves word play. What more could you want?
