Routemaster Bus Seats

RoutemasterchairRetrouvius is an architectural salvage and design business in Kensal Green in north west London. As well as undertaking design projects, they also sell reclaimed and salvaged furniture and amongst their current stock, we’ve spotted these Routemaster Bus Seats.

De-commissioned in 2005, the Routemaster was an iconic image of London that is much missed. Luckily for fans of the “hop-on hop-off” bus, Retrouvius have salvaged a whole bus full of seats so you can have a little reminder of the Routemaster in your own home.

They cost £50 + VAT per seat. Visit the Retrouvius website to see more images and to contact them to purchase.

Candy Task Lamp

CandytasklampThe Candy Task Lamp by Afroditi Krassa is another piece of design, that although modern, was clearly influenced by past design movements, particularly modernism.

It is available with a red base too, but I think the black version picture here is more stylish and it would sit well within a retro lounge or office space.

It is available exclusively at John Lewis and costs £70. Visit the John Lewis website to buy online.

Habitat’s Palocco Chair Range

PaloccoHabitat has a range of chairs going by the name of Palocco. They embody the best of space-age design as they are simple, but sleek and are made from that favourite material, moulded plastic. The range includes the chair shown here as well as a higher stool model.

They are available in a choice of four colours; red, white, clear or what they call describe as black, although it looks more like brown in this photograph. The chairs cost £99 each and the stools £149.

View the whole range on the Habitat website.

Typhoon Classic Retro Juicer

35615Typhoon has some great kitchenware including the Capsule collection featured here recently. The latest addition to the range they call the Retro Collection is the Classic Retro Juicer, which is a product I’ve not seen in other similar ranges.

It is available in a choice of four suitably old-fashioned sounding colours; Vanilla Cream, Limousine Black, Limousine White and Buick Red. Unlike modern juicers that comprise of umpteen parts and cost a small fortune, the retro juicer is simply to use, producing orange juice with the press of a handle. Obviously it only worked with citrus fruits – if you want to make a health shake with wheatgrass, you’ll need something more advanced.

The retro juicer costs £20 from the Typhoon website.

Tic Tac Toe Photo Frame

8262_largeThis novelty photo frame may invoke memories of childhood games. The Tic Tac Toe photo frame is based on what we in the UK more commonly call noughts and crosses.

The frame is made up of nine rotating spaces, each one having three possible faces. It already comes with Os and Xs so you can play the game, and the rest of the spaces can be filled with pictures of your friends, family or pets.

It costs £19 and can be bought online from Home Temptations.

Corinna Radcliffe’s Cuba products

Cuba_2

On the day that it was announced that Fidel Castro is stepping down as leader of Cuba after 49 years, it seems like a good time to feature Corinna Radcliffe’s Cuba products.

Corinna’s work combines photography with a range of products, including cushions, bags, clocks, purses and canvases. Her photography covers a wide range of topics, often with a retro influence, such as “Best of British”, “1950s”, “Brighton”, and of special interest to us today, “Cuba”.

It is not clear when the Cuba photographs were taken, but they feature vintage cars, old-fashioned cafes and street scenes. It may be that these were taken in the 1960s, but it could also be a testament to how Cuba has remained largely unchanged under Castro. Any of the designs can be printed onto any of the products. Canvases are available in a variety of sizes, with prices starting at £32.99 for A4. Purses and clocks cost £24.99, cushions and lampshades £32.99 and bags £58.99.

Visit the Corinna Radcliffe website to see the full choice of images and products.
