Loop de Loop Vintage Material Washbags

Washbag_2Loop de Loop is a small company based in Edinburgh that “designs and makes things we really like ourselves” which includes a lovely range of Vintage Material Washbags, affectionately called Old Bags.

There are several retro designs to choose from and each has been given an appropriate girl’s name. Pictured here is Betty, other choices include Kathleen (blue daisy print), Matilda (a kangaroo print) and Coral (abstract orange design).

As they use reclaimed fabric, there is only a limited number of bag available. They cost £18 and are made to order.

Dedalo Stick/Umbrella Stand

DedaloThe Dedalo Stick/Umbrella Stand came onto the market in 1966, the year after the Kartell Umbrella Stand we featured the other week.

Designed by Emma Gismondi Schweinberger for Italian manufacturer, Studio Artemide, it was available in several colours. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem t be in production anymore (it certainly doesn’t seem to be available in the UK) so if you want one of this pods to store your umbrellas or walking sticks, you will have to buy a vintage one.

Spirografica currently have an orange one for sale, in excellent condition complete with its original box, for which means you have to pay handsomely for it – £145. They do crop up on Ebay from time to time too so it may be worth looking out for a cheaper one there.

Mao Cushion Cover

MaocushionYou might not have liked his politics, but you’ve got to agree that Chairman Mao’s image is one of the most recognisable of the last century. He is not far behind Che Guevara in iconic status, as this Mao Cushion Cover illustrates.

The slightly smiling face of the leader of the People’s Republic of China greets you in bright colours from the cotton cushion cover. Perhaps in tribute to Mao’s anti-capitalist stance, the price is a very reasonable £6.99.

You can buy it online from The Contemporary Home website.

Electric Guitar Lamp

GuitarlampOne for the wannabe rock god – the Electric Guitar Lamp.

Perhaps not the most subtle or stylish piece of lighting we’ve ever featured, but certainly a talking point and an ideal gift for the frustrated Hendrix or Clapton in your family. The guitar rests on a wooden stand and a bulb gently illuminates the staff and your room.

It costs $50 (approx £26) from the USA site Uncommon Goods.
