Brionvega Algol numbered edition TV

Brionvega_algol

Whilst browsing the Brionvega site looking for more details on the reissued Doney TV, I also came across another limited design classic – the Brionvega Algol numbered edition TV.

Like the Doney, this was also originally introduced in 1964 and again was the work of Marco Zanuso and Richard Sapper, with an update to the inner working for the modern era – 99 preset channels, Teletext, Scart and SVHS connectors and a 10-inch cinescope screen.

The numbered edition is in a miltary green colour, with details of its number and heritage etched on the side by laser marking. It sells for 1,800 Euros.

Designer vs high street – Verner Panton Fun Lamp and Marks & Spencer Capiz Beaded Ceiling Light

Pantoncopy

Although there’s no mention in the product description that the Marks & Spencer Capiz Beaded Ceiling Light takes inspiration from the Verner Panton Fun Lamp, it’s fairly obvious that this is the case.

Let’s start with the designer light (left). The Fun Lamp was introduced in 1964, with the focal point being those hand-cut mother of pearl (or steel) discs hung from three rings, creating a mirrored globe effect when lit and if there’s a breeze anywhere, a gentle ‘tinkling’ noise. You can pick this particular light up for around £629.

Hudson Katana 60s-style loafers

Katana

A few people on the forums mentioned seeing a pair of Hudson loafers in the fashion section of the Guardian magazine – but didn’t know much else about them. Well, we can reveal the shoe is called the Hudson Katana.

It’s part of the company’s autumn.winter range, with a basket weave body, tassled detail and contrast heal.

Available in brown, grey and black, the price tag is likely to be around the £155 mark, with availability from all the usual Hudson stockists.

Puma King XL Eusebio 68 – limited edition football boots

Pumaking

A classic football boot gets reissued with a few new touches for the modern game – the Puma King XL Eusebio 68.

As the name suggests, the boot dates back to 1968, when it was produced in honour of the legendary Eusebio – indeed, Eusebio developed the boot with Puma. The ruby red colour represents the Portugese shirt, while each pair will feature the MCMLXVII on the rear and Eusebio’s signature in gold.

And for today’s player, the new version has ultra-thin grain leather, a high density silicon heel and conical studs. Sold with a King bag, leather food, brush and cloth and in a limited edition of 1,000 pairs, you can pick them up for £119.99.

Classic 1960s Brionvega Doney TV reissued – in very limited quantities

Doney1

If the Brionvega Alpha was  just a little too futuristic for you, how about getting your hands on a 1960s classic – the Brionvega Doney.

First seen in 1962, the work of Marco Zanuso and Richard Sapper, this was benchmark TV technology in its day – the first TV with a transistor built in Europe. The limited edition 14-inch model upgrades things further, although the insides still leave a little be desired (no digital tuner and not HD-ready for example). But on the plus side, you get all the other basics, a stylish remote control and a choice of limited edition casing in chrome and orange, black or white.

100 of each available, numbered and laser-etched for authenticity, but not cheap at £1,400. Think of it as investing in a design classic.
