Alessi Miniature range – small-sized classics from the past 60 years

Alessi_min

Alessi has selected what it believes are its design icons from that past 60 years and reissued them as the Alessi Miniature range.

As the name suggests, these are small-sized replicas of these notable designs, reproduced with every detail intact. The range starts with the Bombe teapot from Carlo Alessi (first introduced in 1945) and goes through to the fairly recent Mami stockpot by Stefano Giovannoni (2003).

Prices vary, but start at around £16 – so a fairly inexpensive collection to build.

Skate Study House offers Eames-styled God Father Lounge Chair and Ottoman with skateboards

Godfather
Skate Study House was born of a rather cool idea – mixing classic mid-century design with an obsession with skateboarding. The result is a range of design that’s unique, quirky, handcrafted and conscious of the environment.

And the current range includes this rather stylish God Father Lounge Chair and Ottoman. Obviously inspired by the classic Charles & Ray Eames Lounge Chair, the God Father uses skateboard decks for the frame (seven in total, made from laminated walnut), with cushions added for comfort and the whole thing supported by a polished metal frame.

Choose from black or white cushions, both retailing for $4,595, which is around £2,300.

Gary Crowley Desert Boots for Ikon

Crowley_boot

Everyone seems to be designing a fashion range right now – even long-time DJ/broadcaster Gary Crowley, who has followed his mate Paul Weller by producing a footwear range – specifically the Gary Crowley Desert Boots for Ikon.

The above image probably doesn’t tell you much, but in truth, there’s only so much to say about a desert boot. Very much in the mould of your classic Clarks boot, the only difference is probably in the stitching and the ‘button’ logo on the side.

Colour options are a marked difference too – take your pick from ice, stone (in corduroy), dark brown, green or black – all retailing for £50.

Iittala Ultima Thule range – 1960s jet set glassware

Thule

The Iittala Ultima Thule range was exclusively designed for Finnair in 1967 to celebrate its commencement of Atlantic flights. But you can pick up this stylish glassware just about anywhere these days.

The work of Tapio Wirkkala for Iittala, the range was initially limited to just a small lead-free crystal tumbler, but has steadily grown since, now including all sizes of drinking vessel, along with a large jug to keep your drinks.

But it’s still fairly cheap to buy, with a pair of small glasses starting at around £17.
