Katkiller’s pop culture dolls

Katkiller

Josmar Madureira (a.k.a Katkiller) is an artist and designer based in Brazil – as well as being the person responsible for these superb Katkiller pop culture dolls.

Take your pick from…well, just about everyone from Amy Winehouse, Joey Ramone and David Bowie through to the Star Wars characters, Twiggy and Andy Warhol. All are approximately 21 inches tall and weigh around 195 grams. They’re made of cloth (raw cotton and polyester), stuffed with synthetic anti-allergic fibre, then painted with silkscreen ink.

Check out the full range via the link below. We don’t know the details of price and ordering as yet – currently chasing up the designer and will update as soon as I know more.

Oliver Goldsmith 1960s-style sunglasses

Goldsmith_new

Oliver Goldsmith
was one of the biggest names in eyewear in the 1960s – and now the company is back – offering 1960s-style sunglasses.

Oi Polloi has a good selection of the designer shades, with our pick being the Oliver Goldsmith Fred (above top) and the Oliver Goldsmith renzo (above lower). The Fred shape is based on the Peter Sellers frame, originally created in 1964. They are hand made in Japan using Italian cotton acetate, Carl Zeiss lenses and hypoallergenic hinges, sold with a hardcase, cloth bag and box for £189.99.

The Oliver Goldsmith Renzo shape is based on the frame worn by Michael Caine in the Ipcress File, originally created in 1967. A two tone frame, again hand made in Japan using Italian cotton acetate, Carl Zeiss lenses and hypoallergenic hinges and like the Fred, sold with hardcase, cloth bag and box. A pair will cost you £174.99.

Hans Brattrud mid-century Scandia chair collection reissued

Scan

Not the most-known of 50s designs, but the Scandia chair collection is a mid-century classic and now available to buy once more.

Originally designed in 1957 by Hans Brattrud, the Scandia collection has now been reissued by Fjordfiesta, kicking off with the Scandia Nett lounge chair and Scandia Junior dining chair (both pictured above), followed by the Nett swivel chair and Senior easy chair – all with those distinctive curved wood slats positioned on metal frames.

What we don’t know right now is the price or worldwide stockists – drop the company a line if you want specific details for your country.

Vita Audio R4 retro tabletop audio system

Vita_r4

Regular readers will know we’re suckers for a nice wood finish on our gadgets, so we’re already sold on the newly-launched Vita Audio R4 tabletop audio system.

It’s not the cheapest audio system on the market, but it’s one of the more stylish and useful, offering a dock for your iPod, a CD/MP3/WMA disc player on the front, DAB/FM radio, alarm clock, USB port, a detachable RotoDial remote control and 80w of audio output. Not to mention that rather cool walnut finish.

You can pick one up for around £500 from early June. If wood isn’t your thing, a glossy white version is also available – for another £50.

After Opal Fruits – the Marathon bar set to return

Marathon

Mars has already brought back Opal Fruits in the UK – and now it looks like it will ditch the name Snickers and bring back the Marathon too.

Mars ditched the Marathon name in 1990 in the UK, opting for the more global Snickers name instead. But according to a report in The Grocer magazine, Mars has recently re-registered the Marathon brand as a trademark in the UK – with the likely intention of bringing it back for some seriously positive publicity – like Cadbury received after it re-introduced the Wispa.

However, Mars is playing it cagey, claiming there were "no immediate plans" for another retro re-brand just yet. Which probably means it’ll be here later this year.
