Brionvega Alpha – stylish retro TV now available to buy

Brionvega_alpha

A year ago, we featured a concept TV from Brionvega – the Brionvega Alpha – loving the style, but slightly aggrieved that the TV was just a concept. Well, guess what? You can now order the TV directly from the company.

Described as ‘the new generation of Brionvega’, it has a design based on the modernist classics of Le Corbusier and Breuer, featuring a 19-inch LCD screen sat within a chrome screen, a built-in DVD player (with audio playback option) and a chunky die-cast aluminium remote control every bit as stylish as the TV.

But there are downsides. Firstly, the TV has dated since its first showing – it isn’t HD-ready, but there is an option to get a digital tuner built in for extra cash. Take your pick from silver, black or the orange, with prices starting at 1,950 Euros, which is around £1,540.

BMW updates 1970s M1 super car – unveiling the M1 Concept

Bmw1

30 years ago, BMW launched the Lamborghini-designed M1 and in 2008, it is celebrating that design with the BMW M1 Concept.

It’s a modern update of this 70s classic and a million miles away from the company’s traditionally dull vehicles, adding a more aerodynamic shape and (sadly) losing the pop-up headlights – but otherwise staying faithful to the original.

The downside is that this is a concept – so might not make it into production. And even if it does, the price will probably put off us mere mortals. Another image over the turn.

Charles & Ray Eames Stools

Eames_stool

Are they tables or are they seating? You cut put a good case for the Charles & Ray Eames Stools being both.

Dating back to 1960 and (like most pieces) back in circulation from Vitra, these Stools were part of a commission for the lobbies of the Rockefeller Center in New York, producing these three solid walnut items, each with distinct turned central areas.

Expect a weighty item for your money – but also a versatile one. Prices are around £700.

Bambole

First launched in 1972 and available again in 2008, the B&B Italia Le Bambole sofa range is seating to sink into.

The selling point is/was an apparent lack of structure – giving the impression of a large cushion and offering the comfort and softness you would expect on first sight.

The latest range comes as an armchair, two-seater sofa, three-seater sofa and two sizes of footstool, as well as a range of fabric options. Prices start at £1,583 for the armchair.
