V&A offers exclusive Supremes style with the Love Child t-shirt

Lovechild

In 1968, The Supremes had something of a makover – ditching the ball gowns for ‘street’ styling and going for a grittier sound for the Love Child album. And you can get that look with the V&A’s exclusive Love Child t-shirt.

Based on the top worn by Diana Ross on that album sleeve, the t-shirt is being made available in limited quantities by the V&A to coincide with The Story Of The Supremes exhibition being held at the museum.

You can pre-order now, with the shirts shipping from mid-May. Could be one of the t-shirts to be seen in this summer – and it retails in various sizes for just £18.

The Shelly chair – mid-century style meets modern design

Shelly

Remember the Lobster Chair? Well, this crustacean-themed chair now has an addition to the family – the Shelly chair.

And it is every bit as stunning. In terms of design, it is a more shallow chair than the Lobster, but just that bit wider and smoother – like a shell in fact. But it does keep that curved wood exterior (moulded beech with walnut or oak veneer), along with an aniline leather interior and chrome-plated steel base.

A master class in making a modern chair with retro influences, you can pick one up for a not-very-cheap price of £2,900.

Royal Mail to introduce Carry On and Hammer Horror postage stamps

Carryon_stamps

1958 saw the very first Carry On film (Carry On Sergeant) and the first Hammer horror film (Dracula). And 50 years on, both series of movies are being celebrated by the Royal Mail with its Carry On and Hammer Horror postage stamps.

Six stamps in total – Carry On Sergeant, Carry On Cleo and Carry On Screaming, along with Dracula, The Curse of Frankenstein and The Mummy from the Hammer studio. I’m slightly disappointed by a lack of Carry On At Your Convenience and Carry On Camping, not to mention the bonkers Hammer horrors of the 70s, but we can’t have everything.

Both are launched from the 10th June, with collector’s packs already available to order online, starting at £3.43.

And thanks to The Cartoonist for mentioning this as a previous comment.

Jonathan Adler’s retro-styled Helsinki vases

Adler_helsinki

Slightly Troika, slightly mid-century Scandinavian – these Helsinki vases from Jonathan Adler certainly have a distinctly retro feel.

Take your pick from small, medium or large, each with its own distinct design and colour options – both coming via a technique where coloured pigments are rubbed into the textured designs during the glazing process.

Prices start at $110 (around £55).
