ThinkGeek offers Cassette-shaped MP3 player – and you can use it in your tape deck

Cassette_mp3

Not sure what to do with that old cassette player? Or indeed the cassette player in your car? Easy – stick an MP3 player in it.

Or specifically, the Cassette MP3 player. It uses an SD card (up to 2GB) for storage and can be used either with the earphones provided or by sticking it into an existing cassette slot for external playback of your digital tunes.

And this throwback MP3 player doesn’t cost a lot either –  $39.99 (around £20).

eBay watch: Dieter Rams-designed Braun RT-20 radio

Braun_ebay

Dating back to 1962, this Braun RT-20 radio could give your newly-bought DAB radio a run for its money in terms of looks.

Designed by Dieter Rams, it is a stunningly simple and effective design – a dark front contrasting the wooden case, with the controls adding even more contrast on the front. It plays AM, FM and MW and is said to be in almost perfect condition and full working order, despite its age.

The only downside of this classic is the price. The German seller wants a ‘Buy It Now’ of around £400. If it was nearer a quarter of that, I would be sorely tempted.

Wharfside Assisi 1350 – 60s-style TV stand

Assisi

Wharfside has been selling furniture since the 1960s, much of it made by skilled craftsmen in Scandinavia. Indeed, the Wharfside Assisi 1350 certainly has the looks of a 60s Scandinavian piece.

I’m talking about that rather stylish curved wood exterior, with sliding ‘tambourine’ wood doors that allow for discreet storage of DVD players and other television equipment.

Take your pick from solid cherry, oak, beech or walnut, all with metallic base, selling from £2440.

Everyday Is Like Sundae – hire a 1950s ice cream van

Sundae

Morecambe is rapidly becoming the retro capital of the north – the refurbished art deco Midland Hotel is about to open its doors, vintage property all around is getting a makeover, there’s a 1950s seaside weekend coming up – and now there’s a 1950s ice cream van on the front.

Everyday Is Like Sundae is an authentically-restored classic Bedford CF van, decorated with original/tradiitonal signage and selling locally-produced ice cream made on a farm – or you can go for the dairy-free (soya-based) option.

And you can hire the van too, should you have any kind of event upcoming. Just drop Sunset Ices a line for pricing/availability. or ask them if you happen to be on Morecambe sea front this summer.
