Fermob unveils Alvar Aalto-inspired Alize Low Table

Alize

Look familiar? Yes, the Alize Low Table is more or less an exact copy of the classic 1933 Alvar Aalto Stool 60, with a couple of subtle differences from designer Pascal Mourgue.

The obvious one is that this is a table rather than a stool, slightly wider and lower, but overall retaining the same design, And this is outdoor furniture, so no wood – aluminium is used here, along with a protective covering from the elements in just about any colour you can think of (not just the orange shown here).

Whatever colour you choose, this 48cm x 44cm table retails for around £110.

Paul Frank 60s-style Tambourine Band t-shirt

Frank_tambourine
Not obviously Paul Frank, but this Tambourine Band t-shirt packs a great retro design.

It’s a bit like an independent 1960s cartoon or an illustration for an old teen comic – either way, it is a really stylish graphic, printed onto a light pink top and available in small, medium and large (women’s sizes that is).

You can pick one up for £27.50.

Admiral’s retro trainer range – but only in Japan

Admiral_sheffield

Browsing the Japan-based Ripe website, I noticed a section of footwear from Admiral – and discovered a whole range of retro-styled trainers and pumps.

I’ve not seen these outside of Japan (and I have searched around the web), so I’m guessing this sportswear giant of the 70s (who can forget those England and Wales kits) is making footwear just for the far east.

Above is a picture of the Sheffield trainers (most have English names) and over the page is the latest range of pumps, known as the Oxford. Prices are around £45 for the Sheffield and £34 for the Oxford. If you know more (or represent Admiral), drop us a line or comment below. You can see the full range via the Ripe link.

Old technology and retro looks – that’s the Hole-On Ex 35mm pinhole camera.

Just pop out the durable cardboard pieces, slot in the metal pinhole aperture and in no time at all, you can slip in your 35mm film for some old school photography. Not to mention being able to impress your friends with a camera complete with bright retro styling.

Full instructions for getting great snaps is included and at just £13.50 for the kit, it’s got to be a great way to spend a weekend snapping away without having to spend a fortune on the latest digital camera.

Arne Jacobsen City watch

Arne_city
Simple and stylish – that just about sums up the Arne Jacobsen City watch.

Originally designed in 1955 for Pierre Junod, it is available today in numerous configurations (as in face colours and straps), but I like this version with its silver dial and black markings, along with a brushed stainless steel case and chain link bracelet.

Good for both men and women, it retails for £378.

Michael Malmborg Wing lounge chair – Eames goes futuristic

Wing

At first glance, it might look like an Eames lounge chair, but the Michael Malmborg Wing lounge chair is as much about the future as the past.

The Eames inspiration is obvious, but the Wing takes things a step further, using the biggest single piece of bendwood ever used to create a chair, as well as adding those ‘wings’ to the design. But besides the wood and chrome, the Wing also uses open cell visco elastic memory foam for upholstery, developed by NASA to adapt to your body shape and temperature, creating one of the most futuristic as well as one of the most comfortable chairs on the market.

Which all comes at a price. The chair and stool retail for £7,500.
