Barack Obama vintage revolution-style posters

Barack_poster
If the US election was being decided on art and design, Barack Obama would be streets ahead. And still the artwork comes, the latest of which is this Barack Obama campaign poster by Date Farmers in association with Upper Playground.

The poster will be distributed heavily around Texas prior to the primary in that state. But this vintage revolution-style artwork is also being made available to buy in very limited quantities.

Just 300 of the screenprint will be available to buy, signed and numbered by the artists, with proceeds going towards the Obama campaign. They retail for $200 (£100) and are available now for pre-order.

Kitty Cooper Dina shoes – made from vintage fabrics

Kitty

The Kitty Cooper Dina shoes aren’t just inspired by the past, they’re also made from the past.

The pair featured here are made from a 1930s dove-blue satin, with a 1950s fuchsia silk used for the heels, part of a design that would fit effortlessly into a bygone era.

All the shoes are ethically produced and available to order online. But they certainly aren’t cheap – the pair above retail for £235. See the website for the rest of the range.

Umpen Editions launches new retro card ranges

Umpen

We’re big fans of Umpen Editions’ retro-inspired greetings cards, so its always a pleasure to see new ones arrive – the latest of which is Magnificent Men & Notable Gentlewomen and Beast Wishes.

Above are just two examples of the new designs. To the left is a card from the Magnificent Men & Notable Gentlewomen range, Victoriana designs with a nod to Monty Python’s pop surrealism. And to the right is a card from the Beast Wishes range, inspired by the work of Bawden and Ravilious and featuring a lion, a dog, little foxes, monkeys, a bird of paradise and the pig pictured here.

You can’t buy directly online, but if you go to the Umpen Editions website, there’s an extensive list of stockists.

Eames House Bird

Eames_bird
Plenty of Eames reissues on the market, but the Eames House Bird is probably one of the strangest.

It’s not actually an Eames creation, more of an Eames find – it was just one object found by the couple on their travels, finding a place in the living room of the Eames house for the best part of 50 years.

And now this artefact has been reproduced by Vitra, made of solid alder with a black lacquer finish and steel wire legs. It retails for £94.

Muuto 70s-style Four Vase

Fourvase
A modern piece, but there’s a distinctly 70s vibe about the Muuto Four Vase.

Designed by Matti Klenell, the Four Vase is so called because it offers four ways to arrange your flowers from two separate pieces – the ball-shaped inner part holds the flowers in its four different sized openings according to the size of flower bouquet and the cylindrical outer part functions as vessel for the water.

The whole thing consists of mouth-blown glass, with a diameter of 21cm and a height of 23cm. It retails online for 119 Euros.

Keep Calm and Carry On tote bag

Keepcalm_tote

Another week, another piece of Keep Calm and Carry On-related merchandise – this time the Keep Calm and Carry On tote bag.

We have covered the original poster on numerous occasions, so suffice to say it was a re-assuring World War II poster from 1939, subsequently popular as a calming message in a busy world. The bag featuring the design is made from 600gsm cotton canvas and measures 50 x 35 x 17cm, with an 18 litre capacity and a small internal pocket.

Available in dark blue or red, it retails for £30.
