Fiat to launch convertible version of Fiat 500

Fiat_500

Got your order in for the brand new Fiat 500? Well, here’s something that might knock the wind out of your sails – there’s a convertible model coming out.

According to Fiat insiders, the convertible could be here as soon as the summer. Although saying that, it seems that Fiat hasn’t quite worked out how to remove the roof without compromising safety and strength. Which could mean a removable roof piece rather than a full-on convertible. Either way, it’s sure to be the thing to be seen in when the sun comes out.

More on this as soon as we hear more…

Junk de Luxe Space Invaders waterproof jacket

Space_invader_jacket
It isn’t going to boost your cool, but everyone will know of your love of vintage arcade games if you walk down the street in this Space Invaders waterproof jacket from Junk de Luxe.

It’s essentially just a waterproof coat with elasticated waist and cuffs, as well as button-down pockets and concealed hood – and if you’re going for an 80s look, it could be for you. But that legion of arcade aliens all over the body and shoulders is certain to give it appeal from the retro gaming market – if they can find one.

It only seems to be available in Denmark at the Trendlovers website, where you can pick one up for the equivalent of £24.

Marenco Sofa – sink into some 70s style

Marenco

I’ve just bought a new sofa – it looks great and is very comfortable – but I suspect the Marenco Sofa would be far better to sink into.

Designed in 1970 and reissued in 2007, the Marenco Sofa (named after designer Mario Marenco) is available as a two or three-seat version, with a plywood and metal structure and a covering of stress-resistant polyurethane foam. The cushions are removable – square ones for the back and rectangular for the armrests. It’s also very light to move around – down to that foam I expect.

Arflex have reissued the sofa, but it’s not the easiest thing to track down. You can find information via Italian Design 360 – but expect to pay around £5,200 for the three-seater.

Jean Prouvé Bahut storage unit

Vitra_bahut

Another classic design back in production, courtesy of Vitra, the Bahut storage unit from Jean Prouvé.

Prouvé designed this back in 1951, it’s an unusual use of materials even today, The casing is steel with a white lacquer, the detailing/handles are made of solid oak and the ‘doors’ are made of a diamond sheet metal – which combine to make something mid-century, but at the same time, something quite industrial.

As you’ve probably guessed, the Bahut isn’t cheap, retailing for around £4,500.

Black Dice Ambition square face watch

Blackdice
No, this isn’t something found in an uncle’s old drawer, it’s actually a new watch – the Black Dice Ambition square face watch.

But you be forgiven for thinking it was a vintage timepiece from the early 70s – that leather and faux gold certainly gives it that period feel, as does the wide strap, square face, vintage hands and retro-styled logo.

So if you’re after a 70s-style watch, but at the same time want something with a guarantee, this could be for you. It retails for £69.
