That old favourite tinsel is out of fashion these days as we all go upmarket with our festive decorations. But it’s ideal to add that kitsch touch to your pressies – especially now it’s available as Tinsel Tape.
It’s the latest clever idea from Atypyk, with a roll offering 24 metres of the stuff, which should be enough for even the largest of families.
The problem with buying vintage is the almost impossible task of finding your dream item in mint condition. Well, Watchismo has the next best thing – a vintage classic made from all new parts.
That classic is the LIP Diode watch, designed back in 1975 by Roger Tallon. This 7-segment LED watch is now back in production, but looking identical to the original.
There’s a range of styles available, as well as the option of a green or orange display on top of the red pictured here. Check out the Watchismo site for more details, then take your pick for $289 (around £145).
Rhino Handmade is celebrating the 60th anniversary of Atlantic Records with a series of 4-CD boxsets devoted to the label’s different musical styles, including this new Atlantic Soul 1959-1975 CD boxset.
Opening with Ray Charles’ Come Rain Or Come Shine and closing at the dawn of the disco era with The Trammps’ Hooked For Life, the 82-track collection takes in R&B, soul, funk, gospel, Philly and much more besides, including the likes of Brother Ray, Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, Solomon Burke, The Coasters, Sam & Dave and Wilson Pickett through to less mainstream acts like Judy Clay, Baby Washington, and the Soul Brothers Six.
Compiled by R&B expert Billy Vera (himself an Atlantic artist), it all comes in a sepia-toned 12” x 12” box that includes a booklet filled with extensive liner notes and rare photos. And it’s limited to just 3,000 copies, all numbered. If you want one, you can pre-order from Rhino for a price of $79.98 (around £40).
Ideal for the aging rocker in your life is this superb Fender Stratocaster table.
Manufactured by Fender itself, the tables are made of a durable wood composite, then custom-stained and varnished to resemble the tone and colour of a vintage guitar. There’s also three chrome support legs and serial number – which could make it an investment for the future. Or not. The six tuning peg caps are silk screened, as is the lettering.
Sized at 381 x 1220 x 508mm, you can pick up the table for £200.
Fancy re-living the days of the gaming arcade in your own living room? You can with the Voyager, which is based on classic machines of the 70s and early 80s.
It’s a handcrafted gaming machine of the vintage variety, featuring an 8-way joystick, rapid-fire buttons and an internal PC system that allows 36 games to feature in the one unit. And we’re talking all the classics – Space Invaders, PacMan, Scramble, Donkey Kong, Dig Dug – the list goes on.
Each one is handcrafted from a choice of wood, with a 14-inch horizontal screen, a choice of free or coin play (you can access your coins with a key), two-player option and casters for easy transport. The only downside is the price – £1,799.99. Find out more at the Drinkstuff website
