Vitra Ball Clock by George Nelson

Vitra_ball
It isn’t the first time we’ve featured a George Nelson-designed clock, but we love them so much, we make no apologies for throwing in another – in this case, the Vitra Ball Clock.

Amazingly, Nelson designed this in 1948 and it’s still in production by Vitra today, in a choice of bright colours. It’s made of lacquered wood and metal, with a high-grade quartz clockwork, all powered by a single battery (included) and featuring the Vitra badge (in case no-one believes it’s authentic.

You can pick one up online for around £160.

Retro Rooms: Carlos Molina

Space1

I’m always amazed by how many people read Retro To Go – and how widespread everyone is. And just to prove that point, our latest retro room is provided by Carlos Molina in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Carlos is a fan of the futuristic designs of the late 60s and early 70s and displayed here (and over the page) are some photos of his music room, which is a shrine to that era. Enjoy picking out some real design classics.

Big thanks to Carlos for sending them in. And if you want to send us some pictures, we’re always happy to feature them.

Oliver Goldsmith limited edition Norum 1958 sunglasses

Oliver_goldsmith

Oliver Goldsmith sunglasses were the hippest shades in the sixties –  Peter Sellers, Michael Caine (in the Ipcress File), Sophia Loren and Audrey Hepburn (in Breakfast At Tiffanys) were all seen in them. And if you want some of that vintage style, you can get it with these Oliver Goldsmith limited edition Norum 1958 crystal cotton acetate sunglasses.

They’re exclusive to 20ltd.com and limited to just 20 pairs. They’re recreated from an original 1958 design, with the addition of hand-carved yew tree temples.

If you want to be the only person on the block with a pair of these, they retail for £480.

Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses return

Wayfarer

I’ve got to be honest, I take about as much interest in celebrity culture as I do the shipping forecast, but I have it on good authority that Ray-Ban Wayfarer sunglasses are making something of a comeback on the so-called beautiful people for the first time since their last revival in the 80s – and they’re back on the high street too.

If you want names, the likes of Sienna Miller, Kate Moss and Nicole Richie have been seen in them of late. But don’t let that put you off, they’re still a timeless pair of shades that should do you some service for years to come, long after the A-list has moved on. After all, they’ve been around since 1952.

You can pick them up in a range of colours, priced at £85.

Bio-Synergy Marvel Comics vitamins

Superhero_vits

Personally, if feel I need a vitamin, I tend to go out and buy some. It’s not something that flashy packaging can convince me to do. But I could be in a minority – and packing them into Marvel Comics containers might well be tempting in new buyers.

To be fair, they’re aimed at children and cover everything from multivitamins and Omega 3 tablets through to fruit bars. There’s a good range of characters too, including all of Marvel’s big guns. I just wonder how many Marvel collectors have been tempted into buying a load of these?

Prices vary per product, with the multivitamins retailing for £2.89 per jar.

Adrian Johnson retro prints at Paul Smith

Adrian

If you happen to be passing Paul Smith’s Tokyo store, you can browse the Happy London show, an exhibition of new artists and illustrators picked by Paul Smith for embracing "the positive spirit of London in 2007". If you’re not in the area, you can pick up prints of some of the exhibits, including these Adrian Johnson prints.

For an artist picked as an example of 2007, the artwork here is very much reflective of the late 1960s – in fact, it’s not a million miles away from the classic Magic Ball cartoon from that era.

The two prints above are Lionheart and Penny, part of a series of very limited editions of just 20 per print. If you want one, they retail for around £150 each and should be available for delivery in the next two weeks.
