1960s Take Ivy book by Teruyoshi Hayashida reissued by Powerhouse

Takeivy

An interesting book from 40+ years ago is getting a reissue very soon – Take Ivy by Teruyoshi Hayashida.

Originally released in Japan in 1965 (and sought after since by collectors of the style), the book is a unique collection of photos of Ivy League students and as such, a superb reference guide to the Ivy look in its prime over the 142 pages within.

Back then, it kicked off an Ivy obsession in Japan and as the look is very much back in 2010, it might well do brisk business this year too. You can pick up Take Ivy from 14th October, with Amazon doing discounted pre-orders of the hardback book for at £11.69.

For sale: Late 1960s Eric Lyons-designed Span house in Ashtead, Surrey

Span1

Another Span house on the market, this time an Eric Lyons-designed property in Ashtead, Surrey.

Designed by architect Lyons for Span in the late 60s, it is a K-Type house, considered the best of the designs and like all Span properties, very much about space and light. That means a good amount of glass, open spaces and the blurring the edges between outside and indoor space, with communal areas that encourage residents to mix.

eBay watch: 1960s Kalmar ‘ice’ chandelier

Kalmar

Something really stunning on eBay right now – this Kalmar 'ice' chandelier from the 1960s.

Why 'ice'? Well, just look at it – it could be a block of ice for your ceiling. It is in fact a hand-blown glass chandelier by J.T. Kalmar, designed to look like ice, hiding slots for seven bulbs, all of which is suspended by a metal pole from the ceiling.

In the right house, it will be a really impressive talking point. Check out more images on the site, with a price right now of £97.16.

Buco 1950s helmet bag produced once more in limited numbers

Buco

It's a stunning item, but the Buco 1950s helmet bag will set you back a serious amount of cash.

Originally designed for bike riders from the 1950s to the 1970s to carry helmets (as you might have guessed), it can be used for that today or indeed, double up as a very hip weekend bag. It's been remade for the Japanese market in steer hide, with talon zippers, a nylon lining and inner pockets and in very limited numbers, a smaller number of which have made it to the UK.

Two colourways available, each selling for £345.

Cord peacoat jacket by Stussy

Stussy1

Stussy doesn't necessarily come to mind when you think of classic or retro, but this Stussy cord peacoat jacket certainly fit the bill.

Ideal for autumnal days, this is a classic peacoat with a twist, a slighly shorter cut, but with plenty of warmth from that cord construction and padded polyester lining. There's also a thick flock collar, mock double breast button fastening and double inner sleeve cuff design.

All of that for £159.99. A shot of the rear over the page.
