For sale: Art deco Greenridges house in Lytham St Annes, Lancashire

Deco1

A special house that needs a special amount of money to secure it – Greenridges in Lytham St Annes, Lancashire.

Originally built as a wedding present from a Lancashire housebuilder to his daughter, it caught the attention of the national press, winning the Daily Mail Home of the Year in 1936 as well as appearing in Architects’ Journal as ‘The House of the Future’ – a copy of that magazine can still be found in the house.

Vitra Classic Trays with original Eames, Nelson and Girard designs

Vitra1

The Vitra Design Museum has launched a series of Classic Trays, featuring the designs of Charles and Ray Eames, George Nelson and Alexander Girard.

The trays are constructed using high quality thermoset and sized around 46cm x 35.5cm, so not too big, but very eye-catching all the same. Inevitably that's down to the designs, which are Eden by Alexander Girard (above) from 1966, the '61 Mother and Child design by Girard (see that over the page), George Nelson's 1950 China Shop, Miller Stripe by Girard from 1973, Sea Things, which is a 1945 Charles and Ray Eames design and finally The Family, another Eames piece from 1944.

All are available to pre-order now for a September delivery, priced at £43.50. Yes, an Eames original for under £50!

Adidas Stan Smith 80 x Maharishi trainers

Maharishi

Another Adidas classic gets a designer makeover – resulting in the Adidas Stan Smith 80 x Maharishi trainers.

As you would expect, the Stan Smith shape and key detailing (like the perforated stripes) have been left intact, with London based label Maharishi just adding their own 'look', specifically a heavy gauge blue chambray upper that references 'naval uniforms from WWII'. There's also contrast stitching and some Maharishi logos alongside the Adidas.

Likely to be a limited edition, they sell for £79.

Apc_trench

APC has added its own twist to a timeless classic – the trench coat.

Not the cheapest trench on the market, but certainly one of the more stylish, the APC trench coat is in navy, with  two button down storm flaps, belt, cuff and epaulette detailing, a Teflon coating and tartan lining.

All of that will cost you £325. If that's a little rich for you, check out Uniqlo, which currently has similar-styled trench coats for a fraction of the price – just £69.99.

Trip Man – buy a classic Olympus Trip camera for under £40

Trip

Some years back, I wandered into a dusty old secondhand camera shop and on the advice of the owner, bought an as-new Olympus Trip for around £20. It didn't let me down and is still in fine working order. You can do much the same at Trip Man.

The Trip was around from the late 60s through to the 80s, famously advertised by David Bailey, it was a fully automatic 35mm film camera that was both compact and solid, with a great quality f2.8 Zuiko lens and sold at a price everyone could afford. But above all, it looked very cool – and still does today.

Trip Man is still selling reconditioned Trips and accessories, maintaining that low price point, certainly compared to some of the recent Lomo cameras. The one above is a Trip 35 with white leather finish, selling for just £39.50. Just pick up some 35mm film and you're away.
