Reebok 1980s Freestyle Hi Basquiat trainers

Basq1

An 80s shoe that's also a tribute to iconic 1980s artist – the Reebok Freestyle Hi Basquiat trainers.

We're not sure whether these are fashion or art – obviously you can wear them, although that chunky 80s profile is something as many people will hate as love. Or you could just put them on display – with each shoe featuring 1980s Basquiat street art all over (body, sole, laces, tongue and straps) and a Basquiat signature inside.

Choose from two colours (black or white), both selling for 110 Euros. See over the page for a view of the white from a different angle.

Turn your iPhone into a vintage HP scientific calculator

Iphone_hp

Want to do something retro with your distinctly modern Apple iPhone? You could change it into a vintage scientific calculator, courtesy of this HP app.

For the calculator obsessives out there, you can change the touchscreen of your iphone into a HP 12c, HP 12c platinum or HP 15c scientific calculator, each one a replica in terms of both layout and functionality, so perfect for boffins wanting some old school cool. Also if you turn it around, you get the same calculator with a difference layout (vertical to horizontal), although that also means you can't type rude words by flipping it upside down.

Depending on your choice of calculator, prices range from $14.99 to $29.99.

Ikea Stockholm mid-century inspired TV bench

Ikea_stockholm_bench

We have featured Ikea's Stockholm designs before, a slightly more high-end range, much of it with a mid-century feel. Like this Ikea Stockholm TV bench for example.

Whether you use it as a TV table is up to you, would probably work just as well as a home for a stereo system or as a low-lying sideboard. But if you do opt for its prime purpose, you'll find a height (58cm) that's conducive to you and your sofa, plenty of width (160cm) for a big screen, a cord outlet to hide unsightly wires and plenty of added storage – the drawers even coming with an integrated damper, so it's nice and quiet when you open them. Shame it doesn't have some rounded, angled legs, but you can't have everything.

Made primarily of oak and beech, the Ikea Stockholm TV bench sells for £243.70.

CB2 vintage-style Tattoo rug

Tattoo_rug

If you don't fancy the idea (and the pain) of an old school tattoo on your body, how about one for the living room? That's what you get with the CB2 vintage-style Tattoo rug.

A fairly large rug, coming in at around 5ft x 8ft and made of 100 per cent wool, complete with a design that wouldn't look out of place in the Sailor Jerry range. Or indeed, on an old sailor's forearm.

Coming to CB2 in the US in July (who do ship worldwide), it will sell for $349, which is around £210 right now.

Five of the best: 60s-style shirtmakers and retailers

Brutus_shirts

I am planning on doing a series of 'five of the best' round-ups for the different areas covered by Retro To Go, but in the meantime, I'd like to point you in the direction of an article we have just done for Modculture, a top five of 60s-style shirtmakers and retailers.

We've gone beyond the obvious choices on the high street, instead looking at more specialist and 'niche' sellers, but all affordable and all with websites so you can order online and find out more, no matter where you are in the world.

Check out the article via the link below.

Clea space age table lamp by Christophe Mathieu

Clea

It might look like it has been dragged kicking and screaming from the late 60s or early 70s, but the Clea table lamp is actually a fairly modern design.

It was actually introduced in 2006, the work of Christophe Mathieu and stands around 30cm in height, projecting light downwards from that eye-catching injected polycarbonate frame.

Take your pick from red, anthracite black, white and chrome for the finishes, priced from a very affordable £59.
